Regardless, this Cup has been a dissapointing return to negative, hyper-defensive play. As hard as it is to admit, my beloved Brasil was a contributor. The one bright spark was Germany becoming more open, but it was overshadowed by the success of pessimistic futebol.
I seems inevitable once you hit the quarter-finals... :-|

yeah - a lot of teams seem to have been very defensive. Still been a hugely enjoyable World Cup although I must admit I'm already thinking about the new Premiership season and wishing it was starting this weekend

It seems like Nike is starting to play a lot of their Joga Bonito commercials now, late in the toury..or maybe I just missed them before. The Ronaldo one is pretty sweet. For those of you who want to watch them online Nike Football

So not just according to the stats, the team that won 3rd place today played the most attractive, least to dive and most to score, soccer. Go Klinsman and go Germany. If He stays (and sadly I doubt it) it will be a fun European Cup 2008 😉 But the critics here and in Europe should be silenced now.

German Stats:

- Most Goals Scored in the Tournament
- Second most shots on goal (50) only Por had one more
- Top Scorer of the tournament Klose (If Henry and Vieira don't wake up and score 2 in the final)
- Most shots
- Top 5 in corners won
- Most free kicks shot on goal
- Most fast break attacks
- Second place in short passes made
- First in long passes
- Most crosses
- One of the lowest card ratio of any teams (no read card, 1.7 yellow per match)

1-1 after first half, excellent game so far. Too early to choose a winner, but Italy has been deadly on the corner kick giving them the edge IMO.

Why does it sound like the majority of the crowd is behind France? I would think it would be roughly 50/50, no? Does it have to do with Zidane being sent off or that France has been doing most of the attacking?

I don't know, but they certainly are loud.

Ya, penalty kicks suck. Goalie has to guess right just to have a chance. This series of kicks could have been decided with no goalie at all.

england always chokes in the big games 😉

They have some striker problems, who will they replace rooney with , crouch (?), bent (?). owen is coming of injury as welll. they are very strong in midfield but they dont have a go to stiker, like a totti, del piero, henry,

if Italy can hold their nerves they have a great chance, their defence is always solid anyway

nice call there 😉

Well, we learned today that diving and cheating is a way to win the cup too. Too bad For Zidane... I really wonder what the Italian player said, because a couple seconds earlier they where just smiling and walking away from each other. You see the Italian say something and Zidane turns and bam. Wow... just wow.

Italy did not deserve this cup, but penalies have to make the diffrence and they steal it.
