Assuming you're getting one, of course.

I'm throwing most of it at a remodel of what used to be the garage on our house. It was converted to a den years back but they did an amazingly bad job so we're going to tear everything out and do it right. I figure it's a good use of the money since it will theoretically add value to our house whenever we sell it.

I'd really love to add a bathroom and redo one of the bedrooms upstairs for our expected baby, but we owed taxes this year. Maybe next year.

Our U.S. refund will be used to pay MrsHoneybee's Australian taxes.

No refund here, but I bit the bullet and went and made full contributions to my IRA for both 2002 and 2003. I figure not having to make the contribution at tax time next year will be somewhat akin to a refund (although I suppose I can still stay ahead of the curve and go for 2004 then).

Hypothetically, if I'd gotten a refund, it'd be going toward a nice Sony 36XBR800 HDTV.

They charge taxes even when the person doesn't live there!? That's messed up. I know my buddy from England didn't have to pay English taxes on his wages, just U.S. (and he even had to pay into SS, even though he couldn't draw from it!)

Nope. It's kind of complicated. The Australian tax year is from June to June, she resided there the latter part of the tax year, she earned some income and dividends as well. Hopefully next year she will owe $0 or very little (due to her dividends).

Man, they build houses on smaller lots than that around here.
