Decent episode! The writing was much better and it seems to me that the show has finally hit the right balance and pacing.

One thing that I have to commend the writers for are coming up with ideal but realistic candidates and campaigns. They both seem to be leaders with strong ethics but at the same time they aren't on an 'another plane of moral superiority' (to steal a few words from Santos' DNC speech).

Live Debate next week too!!!! I seriously can't wait for that 😀!!!!

I guess what it all comes down to is the performance of the old cast. I can't think of any of the new members that have pulled of a top-notch performance like the old cast. The new cast doesn't have the energy, enthusiasm, and overall ability to even come close to the new one. Besides the two candidates, I can't think of any of the other cast members that have wow-ed me. After this season, the show is going to be REALLY hard to watch.

WTF happened to Josh? the first season he was a KICK ASS character, then he went to being a WIMP.

WTF writes this stuff?

anyway, i haven't really enjoyed this series in a long time. season 1 was very good tho.

I think during the last season, Santos taught Josh a few things about running a decent politcal campaign and it has really rubbed off on him.

Two very strong actors in Jimmy Smitts and Alan Alda. Its nice to see. Great episode last night, I am looking forward to next Sunday.

[sarcasm] oh and you mean bartlett ran such a dirty campaign? [/sarcasm]

i think you are missing my point. i'm not even talking about the last 2 season, i'm talking about ever since he started kind of dating that chick in the womens league. he has really come off as a wuss. first 3 or 4 seasons, josh was the kickass character on that show.

What I meant was that Josh was so used to the run-of-the-mill political campaign where all you do was attack your opponent but he saw that it was actually beneficial to have a decent campaign working under Santos.. the perfect example would be when Santos used a Live TV spot for his political ad whereas Josh wanted to use the chicken ad for Bingo Bob.

Josh started dating Amy in what.. Season 2. He's still kick@$$ though.. one of the best actors. His performance in Season 2's "Noel" won him an oscar I believe. Josh is a brilliant but pompous, self-righteous type of person. They should center more episodes completely around him like they did during the Sorkin years.

Anywayz, I'm pumped for the next episode. An actual LIVE debate... although I disagree with a lot of the candidates viewpoints, both candidates have explained their position much better than any real politician. If only Santos and Vinnick were real.. lol.

come to think of it, i think what really turned josh's character bad was when rob lowe left, the two had an interesting chemistry where they fed off each other. without the contrast of rob lowes character josh's character just isn't as interesting. for me anyway.

amy is major hot. never could figure out why she didn't get more work then she did.

BUMP for reminder.

There is an actual live debate that will be played out between the two candidates. The writing, so far, for the two candidates have been excellent. The issues they bring out will make a lot of sense and will probally be framed much better than what you've heard any real politician say.

That was amazing :Q

i thought it was pretty good and pretty thought provoking.

it does make sense to make medicare available to everyone. fact is, most of healthcare expenditures happen at the beggining and end of ones life. since no one would object to covering births and since medicare pretty much covers the end of peoples lives, just do it all.

then allow the commercials to handle elective procedures.

And did you notice the Chris Rock reference? "We don't need gun control, we need bullet control" I about fell off the couch 😀

[Chris Rock] "Everybody talkin' about gun control. 'We gotta get rid of the guns.' We don't need gun control. You know what we need? We need bullet control. I think all bullets should cost $5,000. If a bullet cost $5,000, there would be no innocent bystanders."

"Every time somebody gets shot, it'd be like, 'Dang, he must've done somethin'. They put $50,000 worth of bullets in his head.' And people would think before they kill somebody: 'Man, I would blow your head off if I could afford it. I'm gonna get me a job, start saving, and you're a dead man.' " [/Chris Rock]

Thought the episode was ok. Still pretty bored with this season. The only episode I have really liked has been the one where Toby confesses. I probably don't give the show high marks because they started the episode with Janeane Garafalo Man, I almost turned off the tv when I saw her. But seriously, this time, it is going to be the last episode I watch of the West Wing this season. I'll check in here periodically to see if Janeane Garafalo's character is fired. If she is, I might watch the show again. Is it me or did they not show Josh at all? I mean, Josh is Santos right hand man and instead, they show Janeane Garafalo who is annoying to listen to and even more annoying to work with.

You really liked it that much huh?

heheh... I almost was going to kill myself when Alan Alda choked for a few seconds at the beginning.. I honestly thought he forgot his lines.

The cinematography was horrible, camera angles sucked big time. I know it didn't have a chance to go into post-production because it was live but the 'washed-out' effect that the West Wing episodes have give it a unique appeal and the debate didn't have it. And they shouldn't have walked off the podium.. that felt way too fake. They could have done a better job with the set as well.

But once again, some of the writing was excellent. I've really never understood Pres. Bush's border policy until now... which is pretty sad. Medicare was good point as well. Great writing. Real presidential candidates should hire the writers 🙂

Oh and I added a poll for who won the debate? Vinick was a straight-shooter and not an idealist. Santos had these wonderful ideas but as Vinick said, he wouldn't be able to deliver on most.

Ewwwww :disgust:

i watched the debate....and then i popped in a DVD of season 4 i had from netflix and enjoyed that one instead. the debate was interesting, but since it was...well, fake, i couldnt get into it. i havent really really enjoyed this season, but maybe the next episode will be better.

I agree xSauronx.. the Bartlet-Ritchie debate was kick@$$. It was PWNAGE to the extreme. They should have taken a few cues from that episode.. for example, they should have showed the Spin rooms of both candidates. I would have loved to see live performances by Toby, Josh, Bartlet, Donna.. it would have been fun. Altogether, it looked like an amateur video. We could see camera men in the videos and although most of Smitt's and Alda's peformance was great, they did some stupid things like walking off the podium.

The Season got off to a decent start, slumped a bit, and got back on track after the Toby Leak episode. So the final episodes in the season should be alright.

what happened to john goodman. he played the former speaker of the house that became president for 2 weeks.

why didnt he run for president?!

Yep.. I think during the last season they said that Governor Richie and Goodman's character were in the Republican Primaries... and wasn't he a court justice or something?
