I wonder if football players realize that "building" their brand means being successful (for the most part) on the field. Otherwise no one wants to associate their brand with a crappy football player.

At least, Jay Cutler got this message. He seems to be not going after endorsement deals until after he has some success.

He's done at least one commercial that I know of:

But the funniest was Sanchez calling a late time out and then looking openly disgusted as he jawed, on the field, with Riley Cooper because, so it seemed , Cooper wasn't in position -- although a later shot of Cooper pleading his case with a sideline coach seemed to indicate that maybe Cooper wasn't in the wrong . . . if I was reading the conciliatory/acquiescing look on that coach's face correctly.

Seems I made the right assumption that Cooper wasn't in the wrong on that play.

"What they were going to eat for Thanksgiving after the game," Kelly said, when asked what Sanchez and Cooper were arguing about. "Guys yell at guys all the time. I don't know whether that's a big deal. You could catch someone yelling at somebody probably on every play.

"That's not a big deal. I think we weren't in the right formation, we were trying to get lined up. Coop wasn't the guy who wasn't lined up right; there were other guys who weren't lined up the right way . . . I think you guys are making way too much out of it."

The Eagles ended up taking a timeout, then Sanchez threw to Cooper, who didn't seem ready for the ball on a route across the middle on third-and-7 from the Dallas 8. The throw bounced off Cooper and the Eagles settled for one of Cody Parkey's four field goals.

"I think Mark threw it a little early," Kelly said.

As there is not a week 14 thread yet: SEA @ PHI. I composed a spreadsheet comparing the Offenses against the Defenses. This is a Road game for Seattle, in the cold, on the East Coast. They have a lot to overcome. Yet even with all of Seattle's defensive "struggles" their defenses is very good compared to the league and head-to-head against the Philly Offense is better. How much better? In the 13 metrics I looked at Seattle is better in rank in 11 of 13 categories on defense compared to the Eagle's offensive rank.

Code:

The key appears to be turnovers. PHI DEF ranked #7 in turnovers (22) but SEA OFF is #2 in the league in ball security (only 9 turnovers). On the flip side SEA DEF has been average this year in turnovers ranked #17 (18 total) but PHI OFF is the worst at #32 (28 turnovers).

Some things that surprised me about the Eagles: While the protect their QBs very well they still throw a ton of INTs, so the advantage in protection against Seattle's pass rush doesn't seem very encouraging if I was a Philly fan. That is one of the weaknesses in Seattle's defense, and the only area the Philly Offense "pops" in the ratings, and it doesn't make the difference where it matters (turnovers) although it may mean some long drives with solid 3rd down conversion rates. THAT is what could kill Seattle: a lot of long drives by Philly. That is the recipe San Diego used. On the flip side Seattle is one of the best in not giving the opponent many drives so if Seattle can make stops the time of possession could get very lopsided.

As a Seattle fan I would be more worried except Sanchez. I feel we have a fighting chance on the road against a good 9-3 Eagles squad.

Davis' poor production this year is either because he can't get open or Kaep isn't finding him. And, based on every other year Davis has played, I'm putting this one on Kaep. Maybe his injury has hurt him from being available that often, but he certainly isn't worthless.

SF really needs to get back into a power run mentality. You have Gore and Hyde (who looks like a great back, but for Christ's sake, get him off special teams...) and should just pound the ball up the gut. Throw on play action to some high completion routes. You don't need a 30+ yard pass every play.
Davis has got to lead the league in dropped passes this year.

Ha ha, yeah. Sanchez vs the Seattle pass D scares me. Yet, even though the "experts" are favoring Seattle, I'm hoping for an Eagles win.

Establishing the run game, getting an early lead thus avoiding putting Sanchez in a position where he has to do more than mix it up with some play action and a few roll outs, Sanchez somehow subsequently not being a bonehead, NO TURNOVERS, the ever improving Iggles D, plus the home field factor = Fly, Eagles, Fly!

I know he's my QB now...but that butt fumble video never gets old on youtube. The 2012 Mark Sanchez blooper video is also funny in a "haha there's a train coming at us and we're stuck on the tracks" sort of way.

Romo says he has been playing with a broken rib. I knew he was "hiding" another injury. That might help explain why he has been so timid.

Yep, the main factor is the run game which is now firing on all cylinders. McCoy posted one of his best FAYE (Front Adjust Yards over Expectation) last week and he's back in 2013 form. I would be very very worried if I was Seattle about McCoy and the Oline, especially since Seattle's Run D is now mortal without Mebane. If they can't stop that, then Sanchez (or whoever is QB which doesn't matter in this system) will have advantageous looks all day as Seattle will cheat to try to stop McCoy.

The xfactor could be Philly's D/ST, which specializes in takeaways and that could impact the game in a big way.

I think Seattle is playing in form right now, and prime to take the West with Arizona stumbling without Palmer. Pretty much every game from here on is a must win for them, so I wouldn't count them out. They do have problems with the run though, and Shady getting back to form will be a problem. Seattle is tied for 2nd in giveaways, so I don't think Philly's D is going to really do much on that. Philly also has the most giveaways. They also 5th on takeaways, so it doesn't look that bad. If Sanchez and be efficient and not throw INTs, it should be a good game.
