There is a thread over at OCUK forums about release date link.

To be honest I thought it might be a bit later ,however there are no serious issues with Win7 that can't be fixed by Oct,only minor bugs far as I know.

I wonder how far Win8 has come along in the meantime,I do know Microsoft are keeping that a secret.

Endgadget also had an article yesterday stating October 22 was just announced as official release date.

Anyone know if they will add it to existing technet subscribers? Or do you have to sign up right when it's out?

This really isn't a change from what most were told quite some time ago...

Well yeah, but I didn't actually expect it this soon. An RTM in July means they've really breezed through the RC process, which impresses me.

They are definitely pushing 7 through development. While my experience with 7 has been positive so far, I hope their speed doesn't backfire on them.

Doesn't Snow Leopard arrive around that same time frame too? Also Karmic Koala should be launching in October too, though I'd hardly consider that a competitor to Windows.

They are forging on ahead.. based on my experiences with the RC across my two machines, I have full confidence that Microsoft will ship an excellent operating system in October.

Actually by the end of July is when it will be available on MSDN/Technet... So much sooner than October, October will be for retail distribution.

.

Why would it? The First Beta and RC1 of Windows 7 were miles ahead of any previous MS OS at that juncture. (and that is probably an understatment at that)

I was 'excited' about Vista coming out since it was new and different, and I am a 'new tech' junkie. But the glamor quickly faded, and I was very caught up in other things so didn't really pay it much mind.

Win 7 on the other hand has got me excited like no other microsoft product for a long time.

I tiwll not replace my default OS, which is OS X, but I may definitely find myself booting into Windows more often, and will have no hesitation recommending it to friends and family. I really like what Microsoft is doing these days. 7, Zune HD, what they are doing with the 360, and the Microsoft Labs stuff is all looking great.
