They've messed up the schedules for this round... I don't know why though. It's pretty lame.

IIRC game 6 is in Minnesota, and then game 7 is scheduled for the next night back in Vancouver...

So they play in Minnesota, then they have ~19 hours to travel back to Vancouver, sleep, eat, and then they're at it again after getting into town at about 3 am...

Canucks ride power play to victory

Canadian Press
4/29/2003

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - The Vancouver Canucks took full advantage of their boiling rivalry with the Minnesota Wild.

Vancouver scored three power-play goals and Dan Cloutier made 16 saves and got a little help from the posts as the Canucks beat the Wild 3-2 on Tuesday night to take a 2-1 lead in their Western Conference playoff series.

Game 4 is Friday night in St. Paul.

``...It's going to be a low-scoring, checking type of game and you've got to be good on the special teams,'' said Canucks coach Marc Crawford. ``We were the better team on the special teams tonight and got the victory.''

The Canucks got goals from Brendan Morrison, Ed Jovanovski and Daniel Sedin as the Wild allowed three power-play goals for only the second time this season. The Canucks, whose power play was ranked third in the NHL this season, went 3-for-6 with the man advantage in a game that saw 40 penalty minutes assessed.

``This is a big win for us,'' Morrison said. ``We didn't play very good in Games 1 and 2, at least we didn't think so, and we wanted to come in here tonight and have a good game.

``I think we did that.''

After combining for 16 penalty minutes in Game 1, the teams earned 74 in Game 2, the majority coming when players engaged in a post-game scuffle that warranted five misconducts.

The NHL fined the Wild $25,000 on Tuesday for their part in the brawl, and the bad blood carried into the rematch. Seven seconds after the opening faceoff, Minnesota's Matt Johnson and Vancouver's Brad May got into some stick play and dropped their gloves.

The Wild had power-play goals by Filip Kuba and Marian Gaborik, but fell behind on Sedin's second-period score.

Sedin took a pass from twin brother Henrik and tipped the puck from the slot past Dwayne Roloson's glove side to make it 3-2.

Pascal Dupuis nearly tied it for the Wild late in the second, but his slapshot from the right circle hit the post, drawing a loud groan from the sellout crowd of 19,354, the largest crowd to watch a hockey game in Minnesota.

Dupuis had another chance midway through the third on a breakaway with Vancouver on its sixth power play, but Cloutier made the stop with his glove.

``Dan made some key saves and out power play was big,'' said Vancouver's Markus Naslund.

Roloson was pulled with about 25 seconds to play, but the Wild couldn't get off a clean shot at Cloutier.

Vancouver improved to 5-0 this post-season when leading after two periods.

Both teams used defence to grind the pace of the game - Minnesota outshot Vancouver 18-13 - but the pace favoured the Canucks' bigger lineup.

``We got 13 shots on net tonight, and the big thing was we got the three goals and the three goals ultimately won the game for us,'' Crawford said.

Vancouver grabbed the lead 6:25 in on Morrison's goal. He picked up a rebound to the right of the net and slipped his shot underneath Roloson's pads.

Kuba tied it at 11:47.

Jovanovski, standing to the left of the net, made it 2-1 after tapping a nice pass from Morrison past Roloson's stick at 4:24 of the second. But the Wild answered again when Gaborik, who had just come onto the ice, took a drop pass from Sergei Zholtok and wristed the puck past Cloutier.

Minnesota had two great chances to tie in the third.

Cloutier drew a delay of game penalty, and Todd Bertuzzi was whistled after catching Darby Hendrickson in the face with his stick. But Vancouver killed both penalties and frustrated the Wild in front of the net.

The Wild, whose power play finished 23rd in the NHL, went 2-for-7.

Notes: Morrison's goal gave the Canucks their first regulation lead of the series. Vancouver won Game 1 in overtime and the Canucks trailed throughout Game 2. ... A black canopy covered the tunnel behind Vancouver's bench. Security officials took the precaution after Canucks fans showered the Wild bench with beer and soda following Game 2. ... Wild C Cliff Ronning, who has seen his minutes decrease over the last few games, was scratched for the first time this post-season. ... Gaborik leads the Wild with six playoff goals.

And there are so few Canadian players on either team, that it really doesn't matter, except that they are Canadian owned teams.
But man, Don Cherry would have a freaking heart attack if two Canadian teams were in the final.

The 5 OT game was good.

Ice Hockey rocks, shame I live in the UK where we have pretty much none.

Managed to catch the turning point game of the Canucks vs Blues series in Vancouver (game 5), that was good, when I was visiting.

Were you in Vancouver? Next time make a thread before you come over and maybe meet up with some of the Vancouver crowd.
