We'll make this the official thread for the upcoming The Movies game by Lionhead studios. The game ships tomorrow, 11/8, and should be in most stores by Wednesday, 11/9.
If we can get enough people who are interested in the game here, maybe we can have a contest for best movie. I have a couple of guys here at work who are very interested and are very talented, so we definitely plan to throw a couple of movies together in the coming months.
Anyone else excited for this release?
ADDED: Looks like Fileplanet just recently released their official "The Movies" page for the hopefuly deluge of content coming in the next few months. Expect machinima to show it's full self after this "game" is released. However, I cringe at the thought of all the crap we'll end up seeing just to find some honest-to-god good movies.
ADDED 2: The Movies overview movie with narration. Shows a little of the game to those who are curious.
ADDED 3: IGN Review
Gamespy Review
1-Up Review
Looks like the movie-making feature isn't as fleshed out as I was hoping. Upon entering the sandbox mode, you can only use sets and props that you have unlocked in the single-player campaign. Even then, all sets, animations, and camera placement are pre-determined, meaning you basically pick them out of a list. While there are supposedly tons of each to choose from, it doesn't give total freedom.
I'm pondering on whether to pick this up tomorrow, or use my $10 I already have down on it for something else. I'm sure the mod-community will step up tremendously on this game, but how long will that take? Hmmm, decisions decisions.....
