Interesting that there's no less than 4 threads about The Village tonight, but none about the Manchurian Candidate. Did anyone go see that? Is it good? RT has it at 83% right now.

Saw it today and I really liked it. I thought it would be somewhat gorey and gross but it wasnt too bad. Its definatley a different type of movie but still good none the less. The story is good and it moves right along. My heart was pounding the whole movie, or maybe that was my oxycotton addiction.. either way I recommend you go see it! I give it the one thumb up from the message rating.

I saw it. I found it rather boring and uninteresting. Completely forgettable.

Not recommended.

its an okay movie. Too predictable. I predicted what would happen in the end just by looking at the trailer.

That chip in his shoulder really bothers me though. He didn't notice a chip in his shoulder for 13 years?

I didn't care for the original much.

And usually remakes are worse than the originals.

But Denzel is real good....so I might just go see it.

But then again, you highly recommended "The Village"

not trashing you but I guess everyone has different tastes in movies.

To each, his own.

Good movie, the ending was a bit of a let down. Very predictable. I don't know about you guys but the theater had the movie soooo loud. I had to cover my ears during the cheering. It wasn't just loud, it was my ears are gonna bleed loud.

I really didn't understand the ending, why Denzel ended up shooting Raymond. Anyone care to explain to me?

Quoth Raymond "Remember, I am the enemy" right before Ben recieved his "orders." Raymond's mind was able to make sure that Ben didn't kill the president-elect (by making sure not to step on the red star, which was Ben's cue to fire) and instead kill him. Rather or not he did it on purpose (chances it was subconcious, the part of the brain Ben pointed out "they couldn't get to") is debatable, but I'm sure a lot of his reasoning was the fact he hated himself for killing Jordan and his daughter. There was definately more to Raymond that meets the eye and he may not have been under the influence at the end of the movie; we never see him getting new "orders" after he kills the Jordans - he may have been merely acting to screw over Manchurian Global.

raymond was asking denzel to kill him, he was pleading with him to do it with his eyes. He started dancing with his mother cause he knew she was an evil bitch and he wanted her to die as well.

Why was Denzel hesitating and kept on aiming at the president then? I kind of know but I'd rather have someone clarify it for me.

His original orders were to kill the president-elect, so naturally he wanted to obey them. He wasn't sure what to do since the cue event never occurred, so he wasn't sure if he was supposed to fire or not. He had no contingency plan should the cue not be activated, and as as such became confused as to his orders once it was not. Once the shot was fired, however, he got back "into routine" and pulled the handgun on himself. That's because the cue to shoot himself was the firing of the first bullet from the sniper rifle. Notice he had no hesitation there.

My question is wht made him shoot the VP and the mother? I thought the VP was giving him the nod as if to say "I am going to position Mother so you can kill her". I didn't think the VP meant he wanted to die too!

I'm certain he did. He was a murderer - he killed a comrade in Desert Storm and he killed the only woman he ever loved (who was also his only true friend) as well as her father. To compound matters, her father was trying to help save him and was a good man.

Has anyone that's seen this, also seen the original with Frank Sinatra?

Do they play up the incestuous relationship at all that was in the book?

The first movie pretty much left that out.
