The Pats. I haven't seen a team that has been able to counter the NE machine when it's working correctly. I do mean machine. They basically run the same system every game, despite what everyone says about Belichick's blitz schemes:
First, they shut down the single biggest element of the opponent's offense, be it a running back, a wide reciever, or a scrambling quarterback. Then the defense lets the opponent get the short 3-4 yard plays, but closely guards the deeper play. Inevitably (without fail, really) the opponent thinks they can get something bigger. That leads to either a drive ending incompletion or an interception. If you look at the stats, every game in the 14-game win streak has had at least one pick for the Pats.
The Pats offense is the perfect match, never relying on one player, simply going for the short plays, and not making mistakes.
Is it possible to beat this system? Sure. But the Panthers won't, as they have a tendancy to throw the ball up for big plays with relative frequency.
My pick: Pats 20, Cats 10
