Where is everyone buying the game?

I've just recently decided to get it, but I'm not a big fan of Origin; but being able to play it early is a definate plus. Then there is the post here where people are getting banned from the forums and can't even play their games on Origin.

So where are you buying it? Are there any good pre-order deals outside of the downloadable version's virtual items?

I went through Amazon; they still have pre-order codes (not that I expect to be very early at this late date.)

Bought on Origin. Only reason not to is to get CE (which is gone).

FAQ confirms that even getting locked out (ahem) from Origin/EA account doesn't affect TOR; plus you don't even need the Origin client: download from TOR site (right now, even, though you'll have to patch), just enter Origin game key.

I'm guessing the former testing servers - Revan, HK-47, Malak (all also cool names) - will be "big", but not sure if Bio will bring them into official launch (rumor is at least one will stay a testing server). Guild deployment will change things, though, by spreading some really big core groups around to where they might not have ended up.

My plan is to avoid all the "cool" names, since that is where all the leet kiddies will gravitate.

Only problem with that... having played BOTH extensively.. is that the Sith/Empire flat have the BEST stories..

the Trooper is pretty much the only exception on the repub..

i ordered it off amazon. Just the regular version. Still got the preorder code so just have to download the client so no real issue compared to everyone else.

The sad fact is even PVP servers are really only for kids who want to feel cool and aggressive but cant really handle what PVP means.

Theres only 1 true PVP game.

PVE servers have plenty of opportunities for PVP combat. PVP servers are just for gankers.

People who just aren't interested in PvP at all, that's fine. No problem with that.

People who are interested in PvP but want it within the context of limited PvP opportunities on a PvE server want to have their cake and eat it too. PvP is not a synonym for consensual duels.

Ganking is part of PvP. I remember AOC, my group of 40s were ganked and camped hard by several 80s including the guildleader of that group. Once we hit 80, our life goal was to tear that guild apart. Anybody who had that guild tag was our gank target regardless of what we were doing. We would be in the middle of a boss fight and peel off because we saw someone with that guild tag.

Everytime we killed them, they would of course ask for an explanation. We told them that we would continue to gank, camp and generally make all their life pure hell as long as they are part of the guild.

Eventually, the guild dwindled down to nothing. Then we ganked and camped the guild leader until he either quit the game or rerolled a new char. I remember one time, he said, "Ok guys, this is enough. Truce?" Then we demanded payment then we would leave him alone. So he gave us money then we continued killing him.

That was the most fun I had in any PvP game ever.

Ugh, that sounds absolutely awful from both perspectives. None of that sounds any fun to me.

Different strokes I guess. :D

Being able to have enemies that MEAN something is one of the best things about MMO PvP. 4 years Rallos pride on EQ.

I'm a fair PvPer and I would never gank a lowbie or camp those who I kill. But, I do take names and make my personal blacklist of those who have killed me in unfair circumstances like killing me as a lowbie or camping me after several kills. Killing me in a group or killing me while I am PvE, I don't care as much, that is part of the PvP environment that heightens your sense of survival. Makes you a better player.

Having players as enemies is always more fun and unpredictable than fighting scripted bosses. Long grudges can be held and rivalries can be developed, PvP has always been fun. Though sadly WoW turned it into a BG/Arena fest that got very repetitive and boring. It got made worse when the BGs went from server only to clusters, we atleast knew who we were fighting and had fun doing.

So what crew skills are people going ot be getting? I'e tried to do research and am just unsure myself. Ill be a jedi sage for reference. most crafted things seem to be BoE so not like you have to have that skill. That and it seems like Artifice everything is BoE....same with synthweaving. So is there any real good reason to pick those up vs just getting gathering skills? Im thinking ill go Archeology so i can get my own crystals. but as for the other two im pretty unsure. So what is everyone else going to go with?

Also one thing to ask....is there a like "bank" to store items at? I didnt notice one but didnt look to hard either.

I'm curious to know what people are thinking about for profession combinations as well. Currently, for my gunslinger, I'm thinking Cybertech with Slicing and Scavenging.

There is a "bank" to store items in. They are currently in major cities and you also have access to it aboard your ship. Your mouse cursor turns into a "key" shape when its over the bank terminals you can interact with.

You sound like my brother [who ONLY rolls PvP, ever.]. For me though, i used to love PvP servers a few years ago but nowadays I cant tolerate it. Working a full time job and only having 1 hr to play, and spending that 1 hr trying to solo quest only to get camped by 5 bored high school kids for the entire time isn't my idea of fun anymore.

Its fun when its 1v1 and the ganker gets beat down [or even if you die since it was a fair fight] but most times on PvP servers, the players are cowards and will "spot" you then hang back for backup to 3v1 you. That shit blows.

WoW is bad for that but flying mounts makes it easy to get away now.

AoC was easily the pits for that though. Guards being buggy at release, and killing YOU if you fought back made it worse. Not to mention that ToS/PoM/BS were OP at release [luckily I played a BS so questing was not hard 1v1 when a "ganker" came around - course 3v1 is pvp to most AoC'rs].

I generally prefer PVE and that's because I have a job, take classes, and so I don't spend more than an hour a day at most playing these games. That kind of time limit severely gimps me in PVP play, but thankfully PVE is something that I can get into and out of whenever I want/need and there's little to no penalty.

This just says to me that they need a level range (ie, 5 levels for example) instead of no range, that way level 50s fight people their own size. Everyone gets to 50 eventually anyway, although I wonder if there will be a 100 level cap after 10 years and 10 expansions.

I used to do PVP servers all the time. Vallon Zek and Rallos for a time in EQ days of old. I did quite a bit of Eve as well. AC, AC2, AoC, and others I did as well.

But PVP servers are for the young with too much time and many friends with the same playing times.

As you get older the PVP servers just no longer are the fun they used to be. Lack of time to progress your character while being under constant ganks is not anyone's idea of fun if you don't have a chance of either killing them back or surviving. Sorry but Whack a Mole is no longer a fun game when you get beyond a certain age. Which is what most of these games degenerate into. Some massively powerful characters with lots of friends sitting around ganking and playing whack-a-mole on newbies.

Cant ever fix the problem, but 3v1 will still rock you even if you all the same level. Of course you can group with friends but thats not always possible. PvE servers is for folks like me who get mad when a apparent 1v1 fight [in which the ganker is getting whupped] has his buddy add in and gank you. Happens to much, guess that makes me a "rage quitter".

As far levels go, WoW is closing in on 100 and EQ2 [was] getting there. It seems like once the games come close to 100 they start making tiny level advances or stop altogether for a expansion or two. WoW is at 95 now and Eq2 stopped at 90.

Oh no, I wasn't talking about 3 vs 1 engagements. MMOs are social games, people who can't get buddies to follow them and fight on their side have lost the social part of the game. I just meant that a level range would stop level 50s from from preventing people more than 10 levels lower from gaining experience.

After looking through TORhead a bit i think i've decided on synthweaving, Archeology and underworld trading.

Thats good to know. i figured there was i just hadnt looked for one. Didnt see any reason to at level 22ish when i stopped playing to need a bank yeet.
