Tester forums access is also included, btw... Guess they scrapped all the individual test phase forums and just put everyone into the general one.

Note that this is the last remnant of NDA: you can't copypasta stuff posted there.

I wonder what they did to get the game file size down. When I first started it was like 26gb download, now its closer to 18...which is a huge drop.

Probably started to remove a lot of redundant code, beta code, and optimize compression would be my guess

Dumb question, but do I need to re-download and re-install from the new link, or can I just play off the current installation?

I think if you where in the 11/11/11 beta you can use that one. if you where in the ones before you should uninstall it and use the new download link.

From the look of it, it seems this will be the retail download as well. Install is different and icon sets are different then from the first 2 beta weekends that I was in.

Found the link on www.swtor.com

I have previously tested Star Wars: The Old Republic and already have the game client. Will I need to re-download the client for the upcoming Beta Testing Weekend?

Yes. The game client has changed substantially since earlier Game Testing phases, and you'll need to re-download it for the upcoming Testing Weekend. If you have been invited to the 11-13th of November Beta Testing Weekend, you will only need to patch the game client for the upcoming Beta Testing Weekend.

Question, as a Jedi or Sith is your saber style shoehorned by your specialization? I know for example that a Jedi Sentinel can only equip one saber, but are you still a viable DPS'er if you go though route? Would they ever get the option for a double-bladed saber?

I'm just downloading over the client from 11-11...

Same here, but it's still a 13GB patch.

*Please Bioware, give us hi-res textures.*

Correct. If you want to use either dual-bladed or dual-wielding sabers you must pick the class for that. There is one for each side of the conflict. There other two force-saber classes for each side only use a single lightsaber.

actualyl you need a 20gig new build if you played on 11/11

new build came out last week.

so be prepared for either a 20g patch that doesn't remove the old build correctly.. or just do a fresh reinstall which is what was suggested.

That rather sucks. Oh well.

As a tank class, how does the Republic Trooper compare to Jedi Guardian?

Oh, another thing. Are all the gear drops in TOR super common, even at high end raids? I know in EQ it might have been annoying to have to raid a high level boss every week for months to equip your whole guild but it fosters a much better sense of accomplishment than getting it too easily. Gives a guild something to work at.

I don't know about the end game gear - but from level 1-50 all the gear you need is given to you in quest rewards. If you want gear that's between quest and purchase - pick up a crafting skill.

You can also buy gear [blues/purples] using credits [some require social or dark/light side points] or badges.

Purple gear drops - usually are set pieces - which seem to drop randomly from any mob in the game.

Green crafted gear typically requires a low cost vendor component.
Blue/purple crafted gear [which are learned by reverse engineering green gear] typically require a gathering resource from a different profession [which you may have to buy from the auction house or beg from your friends/guildmates].

Actually, my guess is that ultimately you'll want to end up with a full crafted gear set. The extra mod slot in the base item you get from a crafting crit is (though maybe they mega nerfed it) really valuable, and may not be available from dropped items. All the actual stats you should be able to recreate with mod-swapping.

Current tester sentiment seems to be that ranged tanks and dps rule over melee, so trooper tank and sage caster dps may be *superior*...

According to the devs, all classes are supposed to be capable of providing the same amount of DPS.

Forum people are saying 5pm CT on Black Friday, but I'm still hoping for some turkey-time play.
Ouch. The reality is pretty brutal. I can't C&P from the tester forum, but they're opening weekend testing in three waves, depending on when you accepted the weekend invite (which I guess is the RSVP).

First wave: Friday 10am CT. Second wave: Saturday 10am CT. Third wave: Sunday 10am CT.

Testing ends midnight Sunday CT, so there's going to be some real rage from the people who found out about the acceptance link late. I clicked this morning when I saw a forum poster alluding to (but not specifically discussing!) it, but I don't know when it first went live.

Have you guys had to change your password a million times? Almost every time I go to login to the SWTOR site, I get this:

LOGIN FAILED - We have modified our password policy. You may be affected. Click here for more information.

And then I have to change my password; gets kind of annoying. I assume it's just a beta thing?

No, it's a pre-launch thing. Check your inbox; Bioware should have sent what looks like a phishing email. Click through that and change your password that way. That should stop the failures. But notice that you have to set verification questions for a reason: every time you log in from a new machine, you have to answer one.

I was in the last beta they had. Just tried to log in, no go. Tried to reset the password, no go. I already confirmed hours ago though so I guess I'll be ok.

I did search for the email s44 mentioned but nothing.

Yeah, I think right now both their authentication server and the forums are getting hammered. They were fine this morning, which I hope means I got in before the bulk of the invites were confirmed. (People apparently got emails about them starting at midnight! I still haven't gotten one, which I guess means I cut way ahead of where Bio thought I should enter. :D )
