That is exactly why my brothers decided to give up and quit. They're both level 50s and said that Ilum is still laggy and buggy and through a valor exploit, many people already had battlemaster armor and they were sick of it. They said that in PvP, you either got rolled or rolled others and there weren't many fun battles.

Couple of things you and your brothers should know before quitting.

There was no exploit for valor by farming NPCs. The champion turret NPCs do not yield valor, hit for 4K to tank specs, and there are two of them at the Medcenter where players spawn.

Also, with all of the Ilum objectives captured by the Empire, they gain 200 valor per Player Kill by camping / AE attacking the Republic Spawn. In addition, Republic forces could AE tag enemy players and receive credit from turret kills. Both sides obtained valor through the base camping that was done, albeit it was in favor of Empire. Also, check out the new blog entry from a Bioware Dev regarding people gaining more Valor than intended - http://www.swtor.com/blog/ilum-pvp-issues.

Saying that many people had Battlemaster gear is incorrect. It takes 47000 valor (235 player kills at 200 valor each) to go from Rank 59 to Rank 60 valor. You need Rank 60 valor to even start obtaining Battlemaster gear. It would take literally 1000s of player kills in order to advance from even Rank 50 to Rank 60, which becomes more unlikely as Republic players catch on about being spawn camped and quit the game, cutting off the supply of valor to Empire.

Also, Battlemaster gear is only obtainable via 2 Dailies (1 Ilum, 1 Warzone) and 2 Weeklies (1 Ilum, 1 Warzone). These bags have a RNG variable that makes it somewhat difficult to obtain.

The above facts make it seem unlikely that someone become Battlemaster via farming the enemy spawn and obtained all the Battlemaster gear they need to get an advantage.

Lastly, Battlemaster gear has an expertise rating that is only slightly higher than Champion gear (50 vs 46). This means that with 14 pieces of Battlemaster gear, you would have a total of 700 Expertise compared to someone fully geared in Champion gear with 644 Expertise.

By googling, I found the formula for damage dealt increased and damage taken reduced associated with Expertise is as follows (taken from http://sithwarrior.com/forums/Thread-SWTOR-formula-list):

PvP Damage Bonus % = 20*(1-(1-(0.01/0.2))^((Expertise/max(Level,20))/0.72))
PvP Damage Reduction % = 20*(1-(1-(0.01/0.2))^((Expertise/max(Level,20))/0.72))

The above translates to: 12.62% vs 12.01% for Battlemaster vs Champion, which is negligible at best. Ofcourse someone in Battlemaster will have other stat increases besides Expertise.

Overall, the 1 day of base camping and supposed Battlemaster gear didn't cause as much damage as people think.

The point I'm making is that the game is a game that revolves around gear and lvl 50 pvp sucks. Nothing you stated, even if 100% accurate, changes that.

Judging from forum tears, the stealth Scoundrel/Operative FOTM PvP build has been hit with a much-anticipated whack with the nerf bat.

And there was much rejoicing.

So we ran the new L50 flashpoint last night. A few points:

(1) It looks really cool, with nice lighting effects etc. (love the floating flashlight probe). The feel is more Mass Effect than KOTOR.
(2) Star Wars Zombies! Eh, not as silly as it sounds.
(3) Who forgot to put a stims vendor/repairbot anywhere near the FP entrance?
(4) Can't imagine getting through this without AOE firepower. Bring some.

That part is so annoying. Not just for the new FP but for the ops too. The nearest vendor is on the bridge deck or whatever which is just annoying to have to go all the way to it. but it was fun. i was a bit bored and thought it was kind of long myself but the boss fights were fun (we did it on hard mode first time through)

I'm an operative, what nerfs were there? I have only been involved in one PvP action, I attacked and killed some guy while I was on Tattooine...apart from that, despite the fact that I'm on a PvP server, I can count on 2 hands the number of Republic folks I've run into thus far, and I'm level 41. Hell, I went looking for enemies once on Alderaan, couldn't find any except by stealthing into Organa city, and I couldn't do anything since they were next to the champion guards.

so, i've hit max level in 1 month, and i'm feeling pretty burnt out. i have no more patience for the repetition and the built-in time-killing. the technical flaws are a concern, but i think not as much as the conceptual flaws. unusually for me, i've stayed away from raids and pvp knowing how screwed they are. i hope to ride out the next month enjoying some raids and whatever, and maybe come back if the game improves.

i was initially very pleased with the game but as i got more familiar, i've got to downgrade it from B to C. i've (mostly) enjoyed my time but it's not something i'd play long term. i think the enjoyment/dollar is pretty low on this, especially after getting screwed right off the bat. the enjoyment/time could have been better too.

I've only made it to 45 and my sub is up today. I think I'm going to take a break for awhile since getting to 50 isn't that exciting at this point. Hopefully they bolster the end game at which point I will check back in.

Go read the crying for yourself. ;)

Note that this is on the current version (1.1.1) on the *public test server*; it probably won't be officially out there for another maint downtime or so.

I cannot complete the quest Liberating Sobrik on Balmorra. It requires you to enter Sobrik Spaceport and go into an elevator on the left side of the station and go to Hangar 61. Oh, I get into Hangar 61 alright but I immediately DIE for NO REASON the moment the elevator is done placing me in Hangar 61! I just keel over and DIE. And to top this off there is no option to revive myself where I am and I am thrown back to the closest medical droid outside the station.

Anyone else experience this?

Still leveling... I kinda haven't hardly played though in the past two weeks. I did resub, so I guess that makes me the ideal audience for the game, lol.

Only wish their was a phase that would take you inside one. I remember the old SW video game where you went inside.

I completed it on HM a few days back. Loved it. It's a cross between Resident Evil and Left 4 Dead.

Can't wait to see part two in March. This FP was done much better than the initial ones. They said it took them over a year to do the story and it shows.

Funny conversations with NPC I've noticed recently:

First guy in Alderaan, last words he said to me "don't let them blow us up!"

Jedi council, talking about the "rift alliance" and how if too many systems succeed from the republic in this "rift alliance" the republic will fail. I'm thinking, yep, if too many players join Rift, SW The old republic will indeed fail. Don't think it was an intended reference but I found it hilarious anyway.

Did you play KOTOR 1? Part of it was set on Tatooine with a sandcrawler too, and you had quests with both Jawas and Sandpeople. Good times.

In my own TOR blog update :) :

I wanted to empty out ship stores of some purple light armor I'd crafted for a consular alt, so I've been playing that instead of my L40 JK guardian. I've just finished Tython and now I have to decide -- healer or DPS!?

That's one drawback to a MMO vs. the solo RPGs I normally play -- I can't just keep a save from before I choose and restore it if I change my mind. You can respec skill points but not your advanced class :(

The normal mode operation loot options kind of suck atm- leading a pug raid through EV and we had people getting repeat tokens of gear they already had that would have been huge upgrades for other people(Master Looter can't select who to give it to). This issue doesn't exist in hard mode, not sure why they did it for normal.

Curious if the Republic players understand how profoundly evil the Republic is in this game? In all honesty, Hitler would say the Jedi were deranged(one of your biggest heroes doing everything he can to kill trillions of non combatants- 'The Foundry' on the Imperial side gets into it- although anyone who knows lore knows the Jedi of the era were genocidal maniacs anyway- just surprising how far out they went with it).

I've just finished Tython and now I have to decide -- healer or DPS!?

Respecs aren't expensive......? If you wanted to decide between tank and healer it would be an issue, if you go caster dps and change your mind, go to the respec trainer where ever he may be on the genocidal maniacs side of the line and respec.
