So far I have gotten both a Jedi Knight and BH through Act 1, can't stay focused after that and I find myself logging off to play SMB or something else. Or just going to read, on the 4th book of ASOIAF lately...

I was expecting something similar to the Skyrim thread when this game launched (cool finds, pics, funny stories), but all I'm seeing is FAQ on MMO mechanics.

I didn't get into the beta and there's no trial, so it's... disappointing. :p

Anyway, I'll humor you.

I started my trooper a couple weeks back, got up to level 10 and went commando (not literally, but... well... um... the CLASS). Started queuing up for warzones cause you level real fast with em under 20.

One of the warzone matches I ended up in was Huttball... it's pretty much like reverse CTF if you didn't already know - run to the middle, grab the 'ball' then run to the enemy's goal to score. The map is an odd assortment of ramps, platforms, pits and hazards.

On either side of the platform the ball spawns on, there's these two air-jet platforms which launch you in a semi-random direction up in the air. It just so happened that I hopped on one of those while going for some better position and got launched. Thing is, when I came down, I fell THROUGH the solid platform I should have landed on and ended up inside the world geometry. I couldn't get out, but I could move around inside it and see through all the walls thanks to the magic of backside face culling (3D term). Better yet, I still had line of sight to my targets, and believe it or not, I could shoot them! But they couldn't see/target/shoot me back! It was like nirvana for my little level 14 commando! I could attack with impunity.

But alas, as it would happen, the ENTIRE enemy team kept taking the ball up the entire OPPOSITE side of the map out of my firing range. After about 5 minutes of not being able to shoot at anything, I got bored and /stuck myself out (which killed me).

Needless to say, I got absolutely NO kills during my little happy time, and we ended up losing the match. :(

Took about 4 tries to do the herroic probe quest on aldaraan, and that's because after the third time the other guys finally understood what get out of the fire meant.

That's more like it. :D

Would love to see some screens of actual gameplay if you guys have any.

You too?

I got my BH up to level 42 and then started to dread logging in. I played a little more and got him up to level 45 (almost level 46) and haven't logged in for several days now. I am just not feeling like playing this game now, but I have game time through March so I'm sure I'll eventually hit level 50 and I think I may get some time in this weekend with my brothers. Otherwise, I don't think I'll extend my game time after March.

i think it was d&d i was playing - from behind, i was looking at the underside of my own face. it was like i was invisible and wearing a "me" mask. is that what that is?

Sort of... however if you see ANY geometry of the "inside" of your face, then it's not backface culling.

Here's another quick quip from my travels in SWTOR...

Playing my trooper, I got to Coruscant and promply went to meet with General Garza to continue my storyline quest. Upon meeting her, a surly older women probably in her 50's with a somewhat worn face to match, I realized that she was voiced by none-other-than Kate Mulgrew. Who's that? Captain Katharine Janeway from Star Trek: Voyager of course.

Already in love with the voice, I notice this craggly old general happens to have an amazingly SMOKING HOT body attached to her battle-hardened face. I made sure to point this out in Coruscant general chat.

... you know you're a geek when ... :whiste:

I wonder if I will ever get to meet up with Sergeant Jaxo again. She's a crazy hottie and we got busy once, but I have not heard from her since. :(

Yeah, and then we can hear about lvl 49s dominating lowbies.

I've pvped a ton and it looks like there's a big gap around lvl 30ish. They should do three brackets: 10-34, 35-49, 50.

There's no crying in Huttball.

That's not such an issue because it's not the 'fresh 50s' that are dominant. Actually in general, the higher level you get, most people will gradually become weaker in PVP (numerically, at least) because it becomes more difficult and more expensive to keep your gear up to your level so that you can take full benefit of the scaling.

For instance, levelling from 40 to 50, I rarely changed my gear simply because it wasn't worth the cost when I knew that I could just wait til 50 and get some 'semi-permanent' upgrades while I work towards gear from PVP/heroics/etc. As such, I was actually generally weaker with each level up because I overlevelled my gear more and more and got less and less from scaling. I had noticeably more HP in a warzone at 10-25 than I did at 40-50, and all the other stats will scale in the same way. As a lowbie I could crit 3k+ heals at times, but in my 40s they were generally closer to 2600-2700.

What people are experiencing is the level 50 players who have some PVP gear or some raid gear which is putting them above and beyond what scaling does for you. Additionally, that gear will also provide set bonuses and expertise, stats exclusive to level 50s essentially, which will widen the gap a bit more.

Personally I think it makes sense, the 50s have an advantage over lower level people, but not to the extent that lowbies are complete cannon fodder; just less capable.

I actually kind of want to try out a 'twink' type character, basically a lowbie that you gear to the teeth and see how well that scales up and compares.

Yeah I've heard SWTOR is somewhat homophobic; no same-sex action allowed. :(

That e-mail is awesome. I love getting those too; adds a little extra something to the story.

I hope they allow for mod support soon. A thing that is rather aggravating is in PVP situations, you have to keep your eyes on the bottom bars for ability cooldowns, which means you can't keep your eyes on the enemies and movement during combat, this is worse when you play the game on a 27" monitor. A scrolling combat text mod or patch is really needed.

playing on 3x 22inch mons in Eyefinity.. dont have that issue at all.. id much rather have very little mod support.. i think a locked down game is much better for the community as a whole. no imbalance due to modding the UI.

Girls maay be hotties, but at least on the pub side for some reason tthey made so many of the guys heavies.

Is there are negatives about starting an alt before completing your legacy?

I've mapped about half of alderaan, and have seen almost nothing of imps yet. Of course level of fellow pubs I've seen is almost smallest of any world yet.

XP. That's it. As was said, Legacies do nothing at this point, so all you're losing is the legacy XP that would have been gained by your alt. Which for me was 2 level 20's and a level 10 alt's worth of legacy XP.

id rather not see mod support. Makes the game to dependent on them (ie WoW and boss mods....). Rather lets just see a nice customizable ui added.

As for your issue...id say thats more just you than the ui. I have no problem with cd's in pvp personally. Im usually spamming the heal button anyways thanks to the annoying ass 1-2 second delay....

When questing with your companions and you are faced with choosing an item for your companion or the planetary commendation, do you find yourself choosing the commendation over the item? Does doing so affect your relationship with your companion?

The item for your companion is just a gear upgrade. It does nothing to affect your relationship with a companion. Later you have to choose between the commendation and 1 piece of gear for 1 of your 5 companions. Just pick the gear for the companion you use the most to keep them current in gear. The only things that affect rating with a companion is conversation choices and the companion gifts. For what kind of gifts your companion likes, look at sites like torhead.

Hmmm, is torhead down? I can get to the front page, but if I click on anything it shows as dead. Definitely need some help on the companion gifts, I never seem to get any affection from those.

You have to give your companion a gift from one of the categories he likes.

Looks like I've finished my class quest on alderaan as I got the go to your ship quest. From what little I've seen before, I have another minor space encounter and that will finish up act 1.

Only had about 45 minutes online last night, wonder how many quest I have on that planet outside of the class line. Only explored about 50% of the map, and generally there aren't many new quest areas after you finish your class line.
