absolutely. i never have, but a lot of players get frustrated at the time/money sinks and cough up $20 to make the game fun again.

Weird. Sounds like a bad idea to me.

Two questions:

1. Does anyone know if they are going to put in a guild bank of some sort at some point? I find tonnes of stuff I can't use and would like to just dump it somewhere for all of my guildies to peruse and just take for free. Right now I have to link each item individually into the chat then mail it. Kind of clunky.

2. What's up with the datacrons? I saw one, but had no idea how to grab it; what do they do? Is it worth spending whatever amount of time to try and grab them?

Guild banks and possible Capital ships are in the works. They have stated adding guild features is high on their list.

Datacrons are fun to find. And definitely do help your char. Some take awhile(balloon on Tat), some are near impossible to find on your own, some require more than one person to locate. Here is a great resource. http://www.swtor-spy.com/datacrons/

Datacrons add a permanent +2 to a given stat or give you a crystal matrix.

There are several datacrons per planet and while the stat ones don't add much individually, they do add up.

the crystal matrixes are a different story. You gain arrange the crystal matrixes to create special artifacts your character can use that are pretty damn powerful. You can later disassemble that artifact to recreate a more powerful artifact with different and more matrixes.

You should google exactly what you need to do to create those artifacts from the colored crystal matrixes as different color combinations and amounts of crystals effect what you can get. I would give you the link now but I'm at work and those are blocked :(

What capital ships? That players/guilds can own, like guild housing?

Cool, thanks guys! I'm going to look into those datacrons; I've only seen one so far, on Taris, but for the life of me I had no idea how to get up there and grab it. :hmm:

Weird. Sounds like a bad idea to me.

it is a bad idea, for a couple reasons.

1. these people are totally not trustworthy to deal with
2. if they aren't using bots they're using slaves

however, there's enough demand to drive the market. how many players are sitting there thinking "my lack of money is completely screwing up my game. it's worth $10 just this once to lubricate the process"

Yeah, but I can't imagine giving these shady characters a credit or anything.

Do players get banned for using this? Is it easy to tell if someone has used a service like that?

Ahh after reading farther, this is EXACTLY what is happening.

Couple of people on a new server rush to level 10 and rush to the level PVP planet which is meant for 40+ chars. Each player is from the opposing faction. They sit at the box spawns and loot everything then "flip" the control of the planet to the opposite faction so the boxes all respawn for the opposing team. That team loots the boxes and then flip control back so the other team can loot. rinse and repeat. So basically high level gear and credits as fast as the pvp control of the planet can be flipped and the boxes looted.

they're not using an additional software to modify the program. You can do what they are doing with a fresh install of windows and a fresh tor install. If they don't want people to play the game that way, it would be easy for them to hotfix something till they could develope a more permanent solution.

http://www.swtor-life.com/breaking-...anning-people-in-swtor-for-gold-farming/5578/

Our Terms of Service team recently took action against some accounts playing Star Wars: The Old Republic, and we wanted to give you some insight into what happened and why.

First, action was taken against a number of accounts for what’s commonly known as ‘gold farming’ – or in our case, credit farming. These accounts were found to be exploiting the game in a variety of ways to maximize their credits in order to sell them to other players. Our Terms of Service team took action against these accounts and removed them permanently from the game.

Second, a smaller number of accounts were warned or temporarily suspended for exploiting loot containers on Ilum. To be completely clear, while players may choose to travel to Ilum earlier than the recommended level (40+) and may loot containers if they can get to them, in the cases of those customers that were warned or temporarily suspended, they were systematically and repeatedly looting containers in very high numbers resulting in the game economy becoming unbalanced.

None of these accounts were banned for their actions and no accounts have been banned for travelling to Ilum while still relatively low level. By comparison, the number of accounts that were warned or temporarily suspended was considerably lower than the number of accounts banned for ‘credit farming’.

It’s important to remember that our Terms of Service team is extremely careful and thorough in their investigation of any potential exploit or unusual activity in-game. Working closely with the development team and using extensive metrics based on player activity, they are able to determine what is normal player activity, what is unusual and what is exploiting. Our goal is always to ensure a fair game experience for all players while also protecting the rights of individuals, and if people are disrupting the play experience for others action will be taken.

While we will not discuss the details of any individual action, whenever we take action against an account we believe they have clearly broken our Terms of Service. Any action taken against an account can be appealed and in some cases actions have been rescinded.

While we understand people’s concern about actions taken against accounts, please remember the Terms of Service team exists to help ensure a balanced and fair game experience for all. When you see reports of actions taken against someone’s account, remember they are choosing to tell their version of the story – and there are two sides to every story.

In summary, our Terms of Service team took action against a number of accounts that were ‘credit farming’ to remove them permanently from the game. They also warned and temporarily suspended – but did not ban – a smaller number of accounts for activities on Ilum that were decided to be game exploits.

Some adjustments will be made to Ilum in the near future to discourage future exploits. However, the planet is still open to anyone who wishes to travel there.

The goal of the Star Wars: The Old Republic team is to maintain a service for our customers that is fun to play and equitable for everyone. Critical to this goal is making sure that gameplay is fair and reasonable and we are constantly on the lookout for anything that would prove to be a detriment to your gameplay experiences.

Thanks for reading, and we hope this gave you some insights.

I don't get it either. I hit 22 last night and I feel like my pace has been good. I can't even imagine being 50!

KT

Im 29. I didnt start playing until about 2 weeks after the game came out and I only play 2-3 hours a day. Leveling got a lot slower. Not as tedious as vanilla WoW but its slow.

Originally, I was excited about this game. Then, I figured out leveling was tedious and 90% of the quests were fillers(not part of the main story). I'm not buying into this game.

Dear God man, stop with the conspiracy theory possibilities of how innocent bystanders can get banned. Unfair warnings?!?! Paranoid much?
The guy hasn't played a MMO in something like 10 years and yet he keeps posting strong opinions in this thread.

Buy or get off the pot, dude.

I am curious as to what you would consider non tedious leveling, can you tell me what game you have played where you thought the leveling was not tedious? (single player, mmo, any rpg is fine for examples of non tedious leveling)

Bots Farming SWTOR get Arms Ripped Off
... well they got their accounts disabled anyway! Farmers, and some players, thought it was a good idea to venture into high level zones and camp high level reward chests for hours on end. On some servers, it got to the stage where there were four or five level 15 toons camped around one level 50 reward spawn. The clever little farmers thought they had outsmarted BioWare by venturing into zones that were neutral to their faction; so Republic toons would go into the Sith Heroic area and stand and farm among all the Republic NPCs that would not attacked them. The perfect spot for the farmer was in a safe place away from aggressive mobs, but close enough to be able to collect the respawn of the high level chest or crystal.

Leveling hasn't been tedious for me. I just hit 41 and have been playing since the first day of early access so compared to a lot of people I guess I am slow. Dont forget there's more ways to get good XP then just doing quests. Warzones rack up tons of XP and don't forget to do the PVP daily quests for even more. Daily quests for space combat missions is another large chunk of XP. Usually around 1/4 to 1/3 of a level's worth in a day just from space combat. Probably less once you are 40+ though where leveling slows down.

I've been picking up datacrons when I come across them or hear about them in general chat or something but I plan on going back once I am 50 and getting them all eventually. I did get the Tatooine balloon ride out of the way though. To get the 2 datacrons on a Jawa sand crawler you need to hitch a ride on the balloon that circles the dune sea. You have to ride it for around 30-40 minutes then jump off at the precise time. The guy I was riding with jumped too early and missed the jump. Ouch... He was pissed.

LOL.

What's worse is that about 50% of people seem to
miss the drop to the *second* datacron.

Tried to do my first hardmode last night (picked Boarding Party) and couldn't beat the last boss =/. The concept of staying away from the guy with the large area aoe was just completely lost on two of the three other members.

They give you stat boosts. Most of them require you to find creative ways to get to them, though at least one (on Quesh) is literally sitting in the middle of a cave and you can easily get it. Another on Alderaan is half way up to the Elysium area and is accessed via a bird that is near the base.

People are hitting level 50 so fast that I'm curious what Bioware's plan is going to be in terms of expansion and content. Yes, you can roll additional charactersm focus on PvP, or maybe get into crafting, but I'm not sure that will keep people occupied for long.

I'm not a super-fast leveler by tradition (I've only maxed characters in SWG and AoC of all the MMOs I've played), but even I am at the point where I am likely to have a maxed character by the time the game has been out "officially" for a month. At that stage, I think I'll look at crafting and more PvP and try to make some money and get some good gear, along with maybe finally making a character to join the AT guild. I've just been focusing on hitting 50 with one character first.

Any thoughts/rumors on Bioware's content or expansion plans? My brother seems to think that they already have the content for an expansion ready and will release it in the spring.

This is a pre-release interview with some interesting comments:

http://www.zam.com/story.html?story=28498

ZAM: All right, let's switch our focus. One thing that has players - and me - concerned is endgame content and just how robust or deep it will be. Hand in hand with this concern is the fact that, currently speaking, the content quality of SWTOR is very high and it obviously demands a lot of work to complete. Players are worried that if BioWare wants to hit a certain development cycle to keep players interested, something might be negatively affected in the process. Are you confident that you can deliver enough content on time without skimping on quality?

Ohlen: I think so. Right now, we have a legacy system in place to encourage and reward players for trying out new classes and seeing new storylines. So there's a lot of content there to entertain those players who like to play the "level-up game." On the other hand, there are high-level players who are focused on bringing one character to level 50, and those guys are going to be our main focus for new content. We're going to be producing new flashpoints, new operations, new warzones, and even new single-player content for our highest leveled characters. We already have multiple teams working on that as we speak, and they've got a bunch of flashpoints and operations in the can.

We're also not shrinking the content team at all, and we have a huge content team. Our content team is essentially bigger than… well… I'll just say we have a big content team, how about that! [laughs] We have a very big content team and those guys will continue to work on delivering a regular cadence of high-level content. I can't talk exactly about our delivery schedule, but I can say that within a month of shipping the game, we want to have more high-level content being delivered into the game. We're going to continue to deliver high-level content after that and for the foreseeable future, basically. It's obviously important to us. We want to keep people playing the game, so it's in our best interest to keep doing that.

Yeah, they've already said their 31st day content is something like a new flashpoint and operation iirc.
