Since slicing has been nerfed to uselessness what seems to be the best way to make $$$?

So aside from all the bitching and moaning, are you guys actually having fun here?

I'm sure the game isn't perfect for everyone, but I'm enjoying it a lot. Have about 25 hours in after installing it Tuesday. The game doesn't feel like a grind yet which is the best part.

I made a trooper and went the healer/dps roll (forgot the name), then made a Sith Inquisitor and accidentally went assassin. Still fun, but I think I'd enjoy the Sorceress more. Both level 15 and I've been having lots of fun.

Yep, I am enjoying it well at least until I get bored. Even built a new gaming rig today and the game flies. Very casual friendly and with my hectic schedule it works well.

About the slicing, should point out that @50 this doesn't matter. I can do 3 Ilum dailies in 10 minutes that net about 32,000 credits. And there's the ones on Belsavis. Think the total is something like 150,000 credits daily.

Not to mention that gray junk and credits for mob kills add up to thousands of credits fast.

For lower levels, slicing is probably still worth it to a point. After that, just go questing and kill everything in your way (and do bonuses). There should never be a real money issue once you get going.

As to the fun, I'm having lots. Been pvping to try for champ gear while I work on getting good 50 gear.

I'm a 50 combat medic.

How do skills like slicing work exactly for skilling-up? You have a numerical skill and as you use it your skill has a chance to go up each time? I'm guessing there's a level cap too, ie a level 10 can have a cap of 100, 20=200, 50=500? Or something like that?

with all the crafting and gathering skills, just click to use it. points are accumulated and new levels are exposed. there is no connection to player level.

Ah, he mentioned that "@50 this doesn't matter", it made me think of that. So what IS the connection to being level 50 and slicing? You need to be 50 to be able to get certain slicing quests or kill certain mobs/etc?

Steam sale ends tomorrow and I'm on track to have enough money left to get ToR lol. But I probably won't until next Saturday when I move out of the mountains and back to school where the internet connection is awesome lol, if I got it right now, I'd probably still be downloading by then...OK, I'd probably have it downloaded in about 20 hours, but why bother until then...

it looks like i'm hitting a not uncommon wall. i'm a lvl 31 assassin and i'm almost but not quite beating these 30-31 elite bosses, including the main story quest. vessex ulgo spanked me on alderaan a few times, so i decided to try my luck elsewhere. i leveled from 29 to 31 and went back to the main quest, where i got spanked repeatedly. i got the boss down to a couple hundred points (1 or 2 smacks from my saber) before i got killed, 3 TIMES!!! i got pissed off and went back to alderaan - ulgo beat me with a couple hundred points to go, again. then i shut the damn thing off. i'm also not content to wait 20 minutes between attempts so that channel the force can cool down.

khem val is useless at this point. he gets rolled and probably killed by anything. 99% of the forum posts address this with some form of "l2p" but that's BS - i spent my fortune getting him gear (that will be useless in 1 level) and i know how to dps as well as anyone. i'll try messing with his stances and such, but the robo-tank is just worthless now.

although i got mad at a lengthy, expensive night of wiping, i like a challenge and these bosses are definitely a challenge. 1 more attempt before i put out the call for a guildmate to come with me and blast them.

I still can't decide on a class. hah.

I want to be a jedi/sith -- because, let's face it, lightsabers are cool -- but I've heard really bad things about jedi tanking (guardians/juggernauts being impossibly complicated, and shadow/assassins being too squishy)... and I've heard plenty of bad things about consular/inquisitor leveling in general.

I'm loving both my sniper and my vanguard, but the "lightsabers are cool" argument applies.

I thought gear was never really useless since you can, if so available, change out the mods, and other slots?

I'll help you with my 19 Marauder :p

You have no idea the power you wield with a lightsaber :p Just listening to the sweet sounds they make while cutting into the flesh is heavenly and that's why I use two :D

you can spend every credit you have on orange gear and mods - in an hour you will see green vendor food being dropped that matches or beats it. i find it very frustrating. sometimes they have gone too far with time and money sinks, and full sets of gear for you and often-mandatory companions being replaced every level or 2 is just too much.

Orange gear is fully upgradeable. Some other gear -mostly crafting critical successes or items from purple boxes- will have a fixed based state (armor level, etc), but will have one or two mod slots.

The problem is that even if you get orange gear for your companion, you still need to constantly upgrade it. Planetary commendations really only provide enough mods keep up with your gear. Mods can be crafted but I haven't seen many listed on the GTN other than the lowest levels... so unless you just know someone who's into crafting those are still fairly hard to get.

So I've decided to try this out.

You get 3 professions from what I have read. I see biochem is good, what are two other good ones, preferably income oriented ?

Thanks.

You only get one actual crafting (production) skill. The others are for gathering resources or running missions. Run around and talk to all the crew skill trainers at your fleet station then you can look in the codex for descriptions of everything and suggestions on skills that go well together.

I'd still take slicing for cash, but that may restrict your other options. I think it's really early to make cash from selling crafted products, plus looking at the last few posts above you'll see crafted items aren't as good as what you'll get from the world.

Slicing is only useless if you send your companions on missions - it wasn't nerfed, it was fixed. Currently questing on the Imperial Taris side [level 36ish] and getting about 1k-2k per box. I'd say from boxes alone I've netted about 300k from level 1-37.

Not true at all. You have to do reverse engineering to get blue & purple recipes, but once you do that and if you can get the mats to make them, they're easily some of the best items you'll get while leveling.

Are all tradeskill components dropped from level specific mobs? That is, tradeskills relevant at 50, the stuff only comes from 45+ mobs and you can't go farm them from lower level mobs? I once made a ton of money in EQ farming clockwork gnome shafts(which went into Ambleshift things) and there was some dude paying 4000 plat each, they dropped from weak mobs in Corathus Creep which a cleric like myself could pull their entire zone at once lol....

No crafting components drop from mobs AFAIK.
