My dream came true!

Why is this so great? Because Sonos only sells ONE remote control, which looks like an ancient, bloated iPod, and costs $400. Yes, that's right - four hundred beans for a remote control. Granted it's nice and has a color screen, but nonetheless this is 2008 man!

If you're not familiar with them, Sonos makes the best whole-house audio system on the market, bar none. Their system works off a wireless proprietary mesh network and works EXTREMELY well (you just need to connect one ZonePlayer or ZoneBridge to your network via Ethernet to give it the data connection for music). They have 3 types of ZonePlayers: Amped, no Amp, Bridge. The amped version has 55w per channel, the no Amp version is just a streamer (useful if you have an amp or receiver, or powered speakers), and Bridge acts as an extender if you need more range (like to go to a garage from the main house or something). Pricing is $500, $350, and $100 respectively.

The ZonePlayer 120 (amped) has speaker outputs plus a sub pre-out and analog audio input, while the ZonePlayer 90 (no Amp) has analog and digital (both coax and toslink) output plus analog audio input. This means that each ZonePlayer also acts as an input device - you can plug in your radio, computer, iPod dock, television, whatever you'd like and send it to any room you'd like. This is hands-down the best and most amazing whole-house audio system on the market. Now if I could only convince them to do an amplified in-wall system so I could hide the suckers...well, looks like I'm abandoning my Squeezebox project!

Boyohboyohboyohboyohboyohboy am I excited :D

ZonePlayer 120: $500 (55w per channel)
ZonePlayer 90: $350 (no amp - good for powered speakers, stereo system with amp, home theater with receiver, etc.)
ZoneBridge: $100 (wireless mesh network extender)

It's not cheap, but compared to the cost of getting a whole-house amplifier and doing in-wall wiring, it's super inexpensive. No other system on the market has this kind of functionality:

1. Proprietary wireless mesh network (only 1 ZonePlayer or ZoneBridge needs an Ethernet connection, for MP3s and Internet Radio)
2. Analog inputs on both ZonePlayers (computer audio plus anything with analog outputs)
3. Send the same song to different rooms or different songs to different rooms

Sounds simple, but it's near-impossible with a hard-wired system. There are plenty of competing systems on the market - Apple's Airport Express, Logitech's Squeezebox, etc., but none of them have all the features that the Sonos system does.

My only wish now is that they'd make an in-wall system so I could hide the little suckers :)
