On the subject of Fan monitoring, I've just got a new system up and running using an SL-75DRV2.
The first thing I did (after deciding the system was reasonably stable) was upgrade the BIOS to K4.
After installing W2K and the Smartguardian, I'm getting readings from my Volcano 7 as low as 3600.
I didn't check the fan speed before upgrading, so I don't know if it wan (not) working then.
I'm not sure what board revision it is (or if there are more than one in circulation), If someone tells me where to find out before I put the side on, I'll be happy to report.

bazzla, best not enable the fan speed warning. The lowest setting for this is 4000rpm. Not sure on the board rev. thing. Maybe look at the box it came in.

Also, there is another PurpleRay Refurb at Newegg for $69.00.

I finally got my rig together with an XP 1800+. I did the Alpha 8045 mod and its not too hard. The only installation problem I had was that the I couldnt install the network card drivers from PCI slot 3 so I moved it to 2. I have a very minor overclock right now at 1601 Mhz (138 Mhz FSB). Heres some numbers I'm getting from SiSoft Sandra if anyone cares.
CPU:
4390 MIPS
2195 MFLOPS
MM:
INT 8708
FPU 10120
MEM:
INT 2093
FPU 1999

I also managed to overclock my Visiontek GF3 Ti200 to 220/480 and I get 8084 3dMarks.
This board is badass.

I have a system with the sl-75drv2 and a amd1600xp, IBM 60 gigHD, sony CD/RW. Lite-on dvd, leadtek gforce2 titanium th, windows xp.
I cannot install any modem or sound card in any of the PCI slots. I have tried to assign IRQ's specifically to the slots with no success. I get an error message that there is a problem with the new hardware and it cannot be istalled. I went to the soltek web site and downloaded the new bios and tried to flash the bios but get an error message in the flash program that the source file cannot be found! Does anyone who has this board know what I can do or what I am doing wrong? Any pointers would be appreciated.:frown:

Just received my board from Newegg. It is the purple ray version of the board. It has a lock for the AGP card! Can't wait to get everything going.

tbrown, thats not really a lock for the agp card, its actually there to give the card more volts if you set the jumper to do so.

BTW. I received my board, but i had to dremel a corner of my millenium glaciator off for it to fit. Not a big deal, but just a warning.

Im happy with it for the most part. I get better cpu performance from this but better memory from the 8KHA+ , dont know which is more important though.

Hi,
Sounds like you need to copy the "new BIOS" and the flash prog. both on the same floppy and then try the flash again.

Make sure you know the name of the "new BIOS" prog. that you are going to flash, list that prog. when asked to do so.

Any problems, get back to us here at the fourms.

How do I tell what BIOS I'm using? My system boots so fast I can't even get a decent peek at the bootup screen.

I just got a DRV4 last night. Put it in to replace my 8KHA+. Both Win2K and WinXP running smoothly with the new DRV4.

The best thing I like about DRV4 is it allows me to completely disable MIDI port. Unlike 8KHA+, I just can't use IRQ 5. It is occupied by the MIDI port no matter it is enable/disable in BIOS.

Currently I don't have an ATA-133 HD. Plan to get one after Chinese New Year. It would be a great match with my purple DRV4.

I am quite happy with the DRV4. Although this is the 1st time I use a Soltek MB, I am very confident with it because the components Soltek uses.

Has anyone checked to see if there is any thermal paste between the northbridge and the hsf?
Id look myself, but Id rather not if someone else knows. ;)

yeah there is some paste on there.. its put on there a bit sloppy so i cleaned it off and put a layer of arctic silver on it.

I'm wondering how fast you guys are running your boards? I'm right around 140 FSB right now...

Which temp reading is the cpu?

I'm getting a temp of 89C for temp 3 running a XP2000+ so I shut it down, took out the shim, reapplied ASII and temp 3 is still 89C. The footprint on the core wasn't real good the first time, but the second time it looked full.

I'm running an Alpha 8045 that had my 1.4 t-bird running 42C.

Before I started to setup another HSF I thought I would ask if this is the cpu temp, but what else could run at 89C.

angrymaxx -- I'm running at 142MHz FSB (which appears to actually be 143.5MHz, according to WCPUID) with an Athlon XP 1600+ (not unlocked) for a final CPU speed of 1507.5MHz. The system has been 100% stable so far with this configuration.. I haven't tried overclocking the FSB any faster.. I don't think I'm going to either.. because everything is running so smoothly and is damn fast (and my temps are in the ~45C range under load).

Edit - The above is w/ the SL75-DRV2

Check me out over at the ard forums.... plugging for Soltek!
Yeah. this is a very nice fast, stable mobo. running my tbird AXIA 1133 at 1258, default voltage, locked.
VIVA LE SOLTEK!
heh...

I'm bummed, my sig rig is down till IBM sends me a replacement drive. I have to game on my 950 t-bird/Radeon 32mb/KT133a based rig. Life is rough.

Cool! Finally a decent resource for Soltek 75DRV2. :)
I built my first rig with this mobo, XP1600+ w/ generic HSF, kingston 256 PC2100, Seagate Barracuda 40G; Lite-On CD-RW; Hercules Prophet Kyro 2 64Mb and Turtle-Beach SC sound card in a MaxTop case with 2 fans and 350W PSU. Not too shabby. At first I thought the PSU was dead, but seems my wires were loose. DOH!
Rig runs fine but forgot to put the thermal sensor. <another DOH!>
What are the ideal temps? I have everything set to default. I'm not overclocking... yet. :D

Deeviant, i'm currently running my T-bird @10x145MHz and 1.7volts. The bios reports 1.7volts, the manual core voltage adjustment is set at 1.675v and the hardware monitoring reports it at a low of 1.71 and a high of 1.72volts (it goes back and forth). SiSoft Sandra reports 1.71v as well. Pretty weird. it's one of the gripes I have with this board. My Epox E8KTA3 core voltage readings never varied from one point to another like this.

Anyway, my CPU temp is reported as 50C under full load. SiSoft Sandra reports the same. If my V core is set to default 1.75v, my temps go upto about 56C overclocked. I haven't had any issues in the week that i've set the V core this low, and I play RTCW on-line for hours at a time. My case temp is reported as 89F (can't remember the celsius temp).

If you want to try for lower temps and mildly overclocked, lower your V core. It works pretty well.

Just a quick caution for everyone that uses the AGP lock for their vid card. If you're installing an AIW radeon, TAKE THE LOCK OFF BEFORE YOU PLUG THE CARD IN!!! I put my card into the lock and the lock release rubbed up against one of the capacitors on the card and broke it off. I had to RMA the board back to Canadia which cost me fifteen bucks and three weeks without a computer.

Mine does'nt have an AGP lock. It could'nt because of the choke close to the end of the AGP slot.

I'm having periodic BSOD's in winxp with my drv2 and xp 1700. They mainly occur in areas like after the q3 main menu screen and trying to run an installer. Has anyone an idea why this is happening?
