How quickly the young forget.

One thing very casually omitted by the fans of the puce hosiery is how slim the lead in the East has become, and how tentatively those fans look toward the two major series left in the season. Most of said group expected to be in much more control of the division at this point in the season considering the slow start New York had.

Mark the dates on the calendar - September 9th through the 11th, and September 30th through October 2nd. Win or lose, it's certainly going to be exciting ball to watch.

Oh trust me, I don't like the fact that those bastards have hung around this long, and we haven't been able to put the division away. Selig would like nothing better than to have the division come down the that last series of the year at the end of September to bolster his ratings and take the heat off him regarding the steroids issue.
It's shaping up to come down to the last series of the year!

Timlin really stunk it up last night, out of character since he's usually lights out. G.Dam D.Rays, they have the Lugo/Crawford tandem on the basepaths.

Oh yeah, Ortiz for MVP... :p

Ya gotta admit that if the Indians win there will be even more pressure on the BoSox.

This is gonna be an ultra exciting weekend in baseball! I hope fireworks break out and maybe the Yankees will grow a pair and either pitch high and in to Ortiz or freakin hit him right in the ass for once. He keeps killing them and the Yanks do squat.

If the Indians win? The White Sox aren't starting Konerko, Everett and some other starter this weekend. I'll be surprised if the Indians don't sweep the White Sox. :)

Damn! This should be interesting. I wonder if Guillen is doing this on purpose...he probably figures his club at full rest could beat the Indians and not the Yanks or Sawx. MMMMMM....

Yea, whatever his reasoning, it puts even more pressure on the Red Sox to sweep NY this weekend, and I don't think that's gonna happen. :(

Edit: Spelling.

wait a sec... in the standings it says the Indians are 3 games back and if they sweep the White Sox they could tie with them for the division!.... Is that right?? Am I missing something here???!!!

Yea I'm puzzled at this too. IF the Yanks/Sox end up in a tie, there will be a playoff game. However ESPN shows the White Sox as already clinched the division, even though an Indian sweep would result in a tie as well. I have no idea why there wouldn't be a playoff game in that scenario too.

UPN looks good to me so far. The crack of the bat matched the picture perfectly.

if the yankees and sox end up in a tie, a playoff is needed only if indians end up in a tie with them as well.

white sox clinched because, even if they got swept by indians, Yankees and sox can't both have at least 96 wins. In that scenario, white sox, indians will both clinch a playoff spot and then the season series between white sox - indians come into play and white sox has already clinched the season series

Thanks. Here, there's at least a 2 second delay between picture and sound.

basically, a playoff game is only needed if 2 or more teams end up the same record and not all of them can qualify for playoffs.

If 2 teams end up in the same record and they can qualify for playoff anyway (the indian-sweeping-whitesox scenario), the season series record determines the seeding.
