Just finished single player R6:V yesterday. I've never played multiplayer online via Live but have heard good things about it.

For those who have, is the online portion similar in style to COD4, where it's a lot of run n gun or are there more tactics involved?

Much more tactics involved in R6 than COD... much more.

I always felt like COD4 was a dumbed down version of vegas. It looked like they just slapped in realistic weapons into a game of halo and added a sprint function.

I'm going to have to try this when one of my friends buy it - I'm really don't like the third person cover system in a game like this. It doesn't make sense that you should be able to crawl up against a wall and see down a hallway just fine...wait for someone to pop out, and then shoot them. It takes camping to the extreme. Hopefully the sprint and destructable cover will help alleviate this, but I don't think it will.

And much less forgiving in getting shot. You can take a couple of hits in COD4. You can't (or at least I couldn't) in R6:Vegas.

that's probably one of my favorite parts about R6, but I can see why it would turn some people off from it.
That's also partly why I really dislike halo, I like quick kills.

I found I could survive much longer in Vegas than in other games because I had a full ten bars of armor on. Of course that made me move like a walking tank.

lol, yeah, you could definitely slow yourself down with the armor. I went for recon armor which was pretty mobile but only provided light protection. I just didn't want to sacrifice too much speed so I could chase down the person with the briefcase.

I read in GI that they had reduced the size of the maps in MP to make it more fast paced. I didn't play Vegas 1 so I don't know how and if this will change things but I think I'm looking forward to this one if it's more tactical than COD4 but still fast paced.

Did Vegas have split-screen online multiplayer so you could play with a guest?

No guests Vegas or Vegas 2.

What about split-screen with two XBL Gold accounts?

For that matter, can CoD4 do that? I've never tried. I've only tried that with The Orange Box (no go) and Halo 3 (yes please).

No co-op (single and multiplayer) for COD.

Yeah, COD4 will only let you do splitscreen for 2-4 player local multiplayer (no LAN, no XBL).

Nope you can only do split screen locally.

Bah, thanks guys.

It seems odd that an MS produced game (Halo 3) will allow even non-XBL subscribing members to guest their way into both online deathmatch & co-op multiplayer modes and yet these 3rd party games will not allow the same even if all players have and pay for an XBL subscription.

Back on topic, I'll probably get Vegas 2 eventually, if only for the improved split-screen co-op story mode. I remember the co-op mode from the first one completely neutered the story so you had no idea why the objectives were what they were unless you had already played single player.

First review I've seen.

First "reputable" review I've seen. Scores pretty good, but the tone seems to be more of the same. I'll probably wait for it to hit $40 or something.

I was thinking along the same lines. Since it really sounds like it's ultimately just more of the same, I'm fine with that, but I don't feel the need to lay down $60 for it. I did the same when they rushed out a GRAW sequel last year, and I just wasn't excited for it because it was a straight-laced sequel with nothing much new to justify the price tag.

I actually may end up just renting it and beating it, then taking it back. I most likely would never play online anyway.

Most impressions I've read from various message boards (NeoGAF being one) all mention lots of framerate drops and tons of texture pop in issues. Other than that its basically more of Vegas. I'll wait until I see the game for 30 bucks on ebay or something.

The first game ran pretty smooth. No real drops that I remember. It seems the just further bloated the engine. I'll still get it because I liked the first game so much.

The IGN article that blurred posted mentions that. FWIW, it sounds like it's worst on the PS3 (not sure what systems were being used by the people you heard about it from, pardon my ending a sentence with a preposition and my overall convoluted sentence structure).

There also seem to be more instances of the framerate slowing down, sometimes to a crawl. A symptom that is exacerbated on the PS3 where textures and effects are already not up to the 360's standard.

Popped the game in yesterday and played through the first mission. Looks and plays exactly like Vegas 1. I'm wondering if there was any technical improvements done here, because I dont really see it (yet).

There seems to be an new, interesting system they've implimented into the game. It's almost like a kudos system where you get rewarded XP for different things. I can only speak on what I've exprienced so far, not the entire system. But, early on I took out a guy from behind with a head shot and saw a little "+3" pop up in the corner. Upon further inspection I saw, in the options menu, there was a submenu called A.C.E.S. and apparently it's a little system that rewards you with XP depending on your play style leading to new weapon and equipment.

Also, I should note that when I put the game in it realized that I had played (and beaten) the first game and welcomed me back, unlocked a few things (equipment) and added +1,450 XP. Interesting...

Yep, supposedly the experience you build for yourself in single-player carrys over to multi-player and vice-versa. So, you're constantly improving your character no matter how you prefer to play the game.
