Mini Review/Comparison to Forza 5:
Graphics: Let's get this out of the way. Forza 5 owns it. Project Cars actually looks like a ratcheted down version of a PC game. It also struggles with refresh and pop up rendering. Sometimes the top half of the screen renders at a different time than the bottom half on a sharp turn, it makes it look wavy.
Sound: Forza 5 owns it again. Forza 5's only two gripes are too much tire squeel and some engines sound too soft. However it's top quality and very immersive.
Tracks: Project Cars wins on the sheer number of tracks. But some don't feel that great. The sensation from undulations, banked turns and elevation changes don't feel nuanced like Forza 5. Half of the tracks I don't care for. Imitation Suzuka? No thanks.
I love Big Willow in CA, glad this track gets attention. As someone has drove this track IRL many times, I would rather have VIR. VIR is America's gem. Its our mini Nurbergring. I don't know the international attention they get from overseas, so it's hard to gather which should be in there...but VIR is a top notch place to go. Big Willow/Button Willow is like a motorsports playground but kind of seedy.
The feels: It's impossible with a controller. They really are bold to cater to wheel/pedal only enthusiasts in today's tough gaming market. My hats off to them. But would it kill them to include an intuitive controller expereince? Will it hurt anyone's feelings if they did so? You can't even drive a road car with a controller. Let alone race it. You can spin off the track doing 20mph on a 80mph corner. That's not even close to IRL.
Here is thing about cars. You can sit a total noob in a GT3 car, give him a couple laps as to show some pointers on where to brake and how to manage the car, and boom...he is off having fun. Racing? No. But he won't spin himself off the track if he is being mindful.
Hell, I could get a few hot laps together at Imola in LMP1 car even though I experienced neither, and not crash. 120mph kinks check, 70mph curb hopping chicanes, check.
I took a Focus RS road car, and I crashed it immediately without mashing the throttle on a pedestrian California vista road. The steering felt as disciplined as a delivery van...on frozen lake bed.
Bottom line. If you enjoy driving your favorite road cars in exotic locales and your favorite tracks...don't buy this game. Even if you found yourself putting down some decent times, it doesn't feel like driving...it feels like you are following a set of rules.
If you want to feel like you can drive an LMP or FIA style car at cool places like Imola,Spa, Brands Hatch....maybe look at this game.
