I bumped mine up to 2409 MHz (11x219) @ 1.5 V today, & while i have to test it for stability more, it seems okayish.

Is this pushing things since there's no AGP lock?

I'm kinda wondering, since i actually got a higher 3DMark 03 & 01 SE score with it clocked at 2x215 than at 2x219.

Any advice on this welcome.

ATI AIW 9700 Pro
3200+ @ stock
K8V Deluxe ( default BIOS that shipped with it)
2x40GB IDE RAID 0 array on Promise Controller

any ideas would be cool

Thanks

You may want to put the RAM in slots 2 & 3. Mine gave me hell in slots 1 & 2, & after switching it to 2 & 3, it's been fine ever since.

Oh, & get the latest bios.

funny thing is, I had it in dimm 2 & 3 and it gave me hell. I swapped it to 1 and 3 and so far no memtest errors. Any specific fixes on the latest BIOS? also aren't ppl having issues flashing the BIOS?

I was trying to flash the 1006 K8V DX BIOS into this board and it said wrong BIOS, later I remembered that this is the SE DX board. Just DL the 1003 zip file for the SE DX and AFUDOS. Copy the .003 and afudos to a formatted startup floppy. I heard it was bad to use the other methods to update.

:Q

Well, nevermind then.

I haven't heard about bios flashing issues, but i also haven't looked.

I'm just glad mine seems to be working alright now.

I used AsusUpdate Windows program to update my bios to 1003. Worked great.

question about my RAM timings

my stock speeds are 2.5-3-3-6

What does that mean in terms of the BIOX settings

TRC
TRFC
TRCD
TWR
TRWT
TRAS
TRP

??

not sure what goes where

How deos overclock work? why is it have something to do with good memory and voltage? Please explain Also which memory do you guys recommende?

Edit: How much extra heat do you get when you overlcok it to 2.5ghz?

They sent me a 512k L2 cache 3200+ clawhammer that runs at 11x200 (C0 stepping) and it's not a newcastle core. I'm running it currently at 220x11 for a little over 2400mhz, and it seems to be pretty stable. Memory is just generic CAS 2 3200DDR from hardcore cooling.

You got the Claw :Q

Has anyone else gotten one of those instead of the NewCastles?

Nice OC btw 🙂

Anyone running a BFG 6800 GT and overclocking with their K8V? It seems that my 6800 GT is really sensitive about the AGP speed, even overclocking the FSB/HTT to a piddling 206 will cause 3DMark2001 to lock up within a few minutes, but Prime95 will be ok. I set it back to 200 and it can run everything I throw at it all day long.

It's likely cause there's no lock on there, & that means your AGP is being OCed a little...& your card doesn't like that.

I regret not selling mine & getting an nForce 3 250 GB.

I have mine at 2409, but i think i may drop it to 2x215 (2365)again, since it's not as stable as it was.

How much higher than 2.4Ghz can these chips go?
I don't even know if its worth getting an nforce3 at this point.

You have a point there...i don't know if you can really get them much higher than 2.5ish on air.

I'm not the guy to say though 🙂

i've got mine at 2.5GHz (228x11) at 1.55V. Temps under load are 51C, but I don't know how much I trust the motherboard temp reportings. Anyway was giving me some problems at 231 and 233, so I might think about bumping the voltage, but I'm happy where I am right now, and 3dmark03 runs without problems. I wonder if there are agp/pci dividers at 233 and 266 fsb?

Arent newcastles by definition the 512k cache ones while clawhammers the 1 meg ones?

newayz...I got the deal in the mail just wednesday, but i cant get the system to run stably at all at stock everything, using two old school crucial pc2100 sticks (one 256 double sded, one 256 single sided)...i tried in many combos, one stick and two sticks, and the machien is so unstable, i cant een get it to go thru windnows xp installation without crashing....it even freezes whili am setting bios options?!?! Anyone have good reasonable memory recommendations? kinda strapped for cash now ^^;;; Dont need mad fast oveclocking memory...

I reall think this MB stinks up the place. What the heck are they thinking with no pci/agp lock? Even the newest 1004 bios doesnt have it. I would have never bought this piece of junk if i didnt get in on the deal. grrrr.. and whats with the RAM setting? why cant they just use a normal divider. i cant get my memory to run at ~200mhz (400 DDR) for the life of me. Its like stuck at 170mhz no matter what i set the "limit" to..... *off soapbox*

BTW, i am running at 220x11 and it seems to be fine. but i think i am going to go back to 209x11 just for peice of mind that my agp isnt being overclocked. I guess this is a decent board as long as you dont plan to overclock though.

If youre one off those peeps who cant get ur PC3200 memory to clock past 170 cause the divider keeps screwing up (doesnt listen to whatever ratio u set it to, or the CPU to), you prob ran into same problem I did. I have some old school Corsair XMS3200 which wont go any higher, cause its chips are actually PC2700 which happen to overclock well. Same with my sisters Buffalo PC3700 memory. The memory prob has to be official PC3200 (newer revisions of XMS are this way, so I RMAed my old memory) to work at the 2:1 limit on this board. The memory will default to 157 fsb if you try to force it to DDR400.

Running stable at 2500 ghz flat on this combo with one stick of Infineon whatever grade PC3200 at Cas 2.5 (512 megs). Does anyone know how to check the true stepping? My core ends in "AX", which accd to many websites is a CG core, but Sandra and CPU-Z say C-0, whats up @_@

running at 11x230 at stock voltage (1.5V). it can run 11x223 at 1.45V.
using the included heatsink/fan as well. ASUS probe shows a max temp of 56C 8hrs into prime95
had it at that speed for 2 weeks already, haven't had any data corruption or crashes on the agp (using sucky radeon 8500 right now, waiting for 9800pro deal).

probably going to stick with this right now, and hopefully when socket 754 boards become dirt cheap, get one with agp/pci lock and overclock more (will feel like free upgrade then 😀)

this mobo wont have agp lock ever I think, just because it is a k8t800 and not k8t800pro chipset.
