I honestly don't know why I still have a series x either. I only ever used it for red dead 2 and I think I'm close to finishing it but it has not been turned on in like a year lol.
Same thing with my PS5. Bought it to play Gran Turismo 7 when it came out. Must have played it for like 5 hours max. Then got busy with life and haven't turned it on since. Oh, the whole thing (console, Sony 3D headset and game) cost me $896.

Dunno why you think it would still activate :)

If it doesn't, do you think Sony support will help you?

I bought the PS3 copy of Portal 2 when it came out. It had a Steam code that I neglected to add. Two or three years later, I try to activate the code and it doesn't work because the service designed to accept it (some sort of collaboration between Valve and Sony) had been shut down. It was a frickin' Steam code yet Steam wasn't accepting it. I complained to their support. Their short reply was, the offer is no longer available. They are lucky that I'm not Superman. I would have walked into their HQ and would have come out either with Portal 2 in my library or their HQ in shambles.
Ouch, that's a bummer.

Yeah, there's a good chance the coupon code wouldn't convert to a PS+ Essentials subscription but it does say in small print at the bottom "Does not expire"... Would be an a-hole move for "Does not expire" to really mean "Actually, it does expire, suckah!".

That code should still activate. I've bought multiple in the past and didn't activate both so I did redeem them separately a year apart. Ps+ should convert to ps essential currently which is the first tier of the membership.

Sony State of Play tomorrow, with rumors that we'll get more info on Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and Stellar Blade. Rebirth is going to be a Day 1 buy for me most likely after how much I loved Part 1 of Final Fantasy VII Remake, and Stellar Blade is a game I have been hugely interested in since seeing the debut trailer:

Also will be a Nintendo Direct tomorrow but no idea what'll be in that.

I really want to see if Sony shows off any new PSVR2 games that aren't just shovelware crap like what is basically all they have for it right now.

Is there anything worth buying PSVR 2 for other than the specs? Still a hard sell without Half Life Alyx.

Good lord, I didn't realize this game was being developed by Shift Up, the studio known for H* gacha mobile games Nikke and Destiny Child... I have zero hope this will be any good. And it seems to be missing the one thing that studio seems to be good at, creating a LARGE selection of waifu.

Rebirth looks good, and has a release date now (Feb 29th, oddly enough)
Rebirth is a day 1 buy for me probably even if they screw up the performance like FF XVI. Spiderman 2 looks pretty legit too. Far better show than Nintendo's today.

The PSVR2 showing was laughable.

The Ghostbusters multiplayer game and then RE4 VR mode that we've known about forever and is like the 10th re-re-re-release of that awful game.

There wasn't one game on the Sony Direct that I have any interest in. I couldn't believe Spiderman is what they ended it with and couldn't believe it was only 30 mins.

I didn't watch it but so far I have heard of spiderman 2 being the next big game for the PS5. We've had some decent games for it but a lot of the other titles I felt were mostly remasters.

Interesting, Square is offering FF7R Part 1 as a digital preorder bonus for Part 2. Granted, I imagine most people interested in Part 2 have played Part 1 at this point, esp given it's been on PS+... Maybe they will offer both as a bundle on Switch 2.

For me, spiderman looks like more of the same. Same city, same gameplay loop, just a facelift and minor changes. Not really interested that much.

Have there been any solid rumors on a launch date for a PS5 pro? I never did get either console because it was impossible to around launch without paying scalper prices and now it feels like it's a little too close to that point in the lifecycle of the console to get the base model when there's a "pro" version likely to be released within a year or so.

Also, I've been completely checked out of console gaming for a while. Are there any "must play" console or PS5 exclusives that are worth picking up even if I don't get one for a while?

Holiday 2024. But it'll be pricey I bet.

I haven't heard anything about a pro model. I imagine they would have announced something at the last PlayStation event.

PS5 slim announced

$50 price increase on digital model
$80 bluray disc drive addon
$30 vertical stand

Seems like the addon drive would only be compatible with the new model?

Lists storage as 1TB, guessing they ditched the custom SSD for a standard PCIe 4 NVMe.

Very lame that they are no longer including the vertical stand. Other aspects will need to wait to see teardown and comparisons.

Interesting that they are going to continue to sell a "disc" model that's basically the Slim with the external drive already installed. And no price increase there.

I'm more surprised that they are selling a digital only version with a $50 price increase.
