Wow the opening hour of Final Fantasy VII Remake is really something. One of the best intros I have ever played. I can see why the PS1 original is a lot of peoples' favorite game after seeing all you do in the intro. Now I know I'll be playing the original in the not too distant future since this remake is only a small part of the PS1 game's story.

Also pretty amazing graphically. Can't believe I waited until now to start it.

Probably because the PS4 version of the game is only 30 fps.
 
I have an opportunity to pick up a PS5. Wondering if the go-to strategy is still to purchase the PS4 version of games and then downloading the PS5 update?

Not always. Not every game has a PS5 free update. You can get screwed and end up with only that PS4 game since the PS5 is backwards compatible.

I think you would have to look into what game you are interested in and see. Otherwise just get the PS5 version of available to be certain.
 
So I bought Elden Ring used. It's the PS4 disc version but I am going to try my luck with the PS5 version, see if it's really that bad with the patches.

Speaking of hard games, I think I've gotten my fill of Weiss from FF7 Remake. He is very hard but I am able to beat him mostly easily now.

If you have HDMI 2.1 VRR then the PS5 version is a no-brainer. If not I'd go PS4 version to get 60 fps. Only place I ever saw frame drops on the PS4 Pro version on PS5 was one part of Caelid that's often rainy and windy. Best game I have played in five years.

Coincidentally, I'm currently playing FF VII Remake, such a blast playing with Tifa. Glad I held out until I had a PS5 instead of playing at launch on PS4.

Won't work for Spiderman for example. No way to upgrade it to the PS5 version. To get the PS5 version of Spiderman you need to get Spiderman Miles Morales Ultimate (which comes with Spiderman Remastered) or buy Spiderman Miles Morales and then you can buy Spiderman Remastered digitally for $20 from that. Strangely I think you can even do that with the PS4 version of Spiderman Miles Morales though, which I think has a free PS5 upgrade.

Another one it won't work on is Persona 5 Royal. PS5 Persona 5 Royal is a considered by Atlus a completely different game from PS4 Persona 5 Royal, which is also considered by Atlus a completely different game from PS4 Persona 5.

Horizon Forbidden West was the last Sony first party game to get a free PS5 upgrade, so I of course bought the PS4 version for $10 less when I got it haha.

If the game came out before the PS5 released the PS5 upgrade is usually free, except for a couple of exceptions like Persona and Spiderman. If the game came out on PS4 and PS5 concurrently the PS4 to PS5 upgrade is usually $10 for a Sony first party game, usually free for third party games. Though the third party PS5 games are usually the same $60 as the PS4 version.

Six play through in one game clocking at 600+,2 playthroughs in another game with a different build in at 120, 4 playthroughs in another game at 400+ and a new one where I am doing all story lines missing in the other games, at 80+.then there is my pc version where I have another 30 or so hours but for some reason I prefer playing on the ps5. I find the pc version too sharp. Odd as it plays very smooth at 4k and 100fps but I like the way the ps5 looks.

God I can't wait for the DLC. Do you play the PS5 native version or the PS4 version in BC mode? If the PS5 native, has the performance improved from launch?

Got native ps5 but about a month after launch so I didn't really notice an improvement as it played well when I started. I didn't get to experience it before they nerfed the mimic Ash tho. I too am waiting for dlc as I know every inch of this game and found nothing I haven't seen before in my many playthroughs. On my highest level fame I am well over level 430 and am aiming for level 700+. Melania at journey 6 is insane.

Depends, I have the reverb G2 and that was a $600 headset. Resolution is almost 4k though so I'm not sure what the ps VR headset resolution and frame time is set to. I doubt it's anything close to that as even with top of the line components running the G2 can be taxing depending on the game.

Hopefully the jump in visual fidelity justifies the price. I'll try my best to get it at launch. Should be interesting to see if it can prevent me from getting motion sickness watching 360 degree Youtube videos.
