I can wait just a bit to see how things shake out. $750 might be just a bridge too far for me since it feels like a gouge on the drive and I am not an entirely logical person.

I own 95% of the games I play on disc, so it's not really a disc or no disc debate for me.

That said, if they price it to the point where it pinches the folks trying to buy for resale before xmas, that's a reasonable "business" practice I can understand. I just don't have to like it.

$700 no optical drive? Ah, that seems kind of hefty to me. So, $800? Good grief, the 4080 is at a grand now, and I can just pop that in my PC.

PS - For me, $699 with drive, will definitely buy. Without drive, may need to think about it. 45% faster? Ah, assuming it's true, I'd be up for it, assuming it'll play the games I wanna play at 60 FPS without significant graphics degradation.

I thought $699 with drive would be the highest they would price it. Nov 7? Have some time to ponder it, I suppose.

Quick question. Can I use any optical drive or must it be a special PS5 drive I buy from them?
Is there a single console add-on since the first console that is not vendor specific?

Other enhancements include PS5 Pro Game Boost, which can apply to more than 8,500 backward compatible PS4 games playable on PS5 Pro. This feature may stabilize or improve the performance of supported PS4 and PS5 games. Enhanced Image Quality for PS4 games is also available to improve the resolution on select PS4 games

Bloodborne at 60 fps? 😛

Ha I also figured it would be $700 without the optical drive!

Does that thing snap on to the console?

Well I don't expect it to sell out immediately like the PS5 did at this point. I expect more people who don't have a console already to want the regular PS5 since the optical drive as an add on will look pretty bad.

All my games are on disc with the exception of some indie PS5 titles I picked up digital during psn sales.

I'll try to preorder one if the option to add the drive also exists on preorder.

I also think the stand is an accessory you now have to pay for too so the barrier to entry is higher. Easy to justify the regular version for newcomers seeing as there aren't many games worth getting the Pro yet.

I aint getting it. And not because of the price either. I currently have 8TB on my PS5 now and I just don't want to go through that hassle on a new console.

I’m in the same boat. The fact that they removed the disc drive is just an absolute no go. I can understand the $700 price with the disc drive. But without it hell no.

I hope that’s not a foreshadowing of the PS6 not having a disc drive.

You can still buy the Slim drive and use that ($80)

Ahh now we’re talking $780. For 45% more rendering performance, the device with a disc drive addon would need to be around $650 for me, $700 tops. Sure ray tracing does get a lot better, but it seems like a hard justification to go through the hassle of selling the OG.

I was ready to spend $700.

I'll stand by for it. I'll be watching for a Q1 Costco Combo or something to bring some sort of enhanced value.

My guess is that Sony won't really backtrack but might add a year of PS+ premium or something, or make a bundle for $800 that includes the drive, a controller and a game.

That's similar to how I bought my og PS5 at Costco - paid ~$650 but it was 2 controllers and included Spiderman Remastered/Spiderman MM. I made it trough the mental gymnastics to make it work for me.
