Intel has more knowledge then whom? I believe you are referring to AMD, should we all remind you AMD has done more to spur the technical revolution then Intel has by a large sum. In terms of ratio/ratio is concerned.

Rather it is out of necessity or whatever, the fact remains the same.

Intels physics knowledge is very high. They seem to do alone what other companies do in a grouping. Afcourse AMD has great technological advancements. But for as far as i know, a lot of these engineers swap there employers all the time. Most of AMD's knowhow for the K8 came from the ex DEC people if i have understoot correctly. And i may be wrong but i am sure there are some ex Intel employees working for AMD and vice versa.
