damn ... they do have a lot of third party support. wonder if it will last though.

but why would i buy those games on wii u when i could get em on ps3 or 360 w/better graphics, better controls, and better online?

If you would rather have just one console and you don't want to decide between fun party games and local multiplayer (Wii) and the big releases (PS3/360).

How do you figure the graphics will be better on previous generation consoles?

What the hell. If Battlefield 3 is actually on Wii U, I will personally eat my own hat.

And you know any of those things are true .... how?

Yes... controls, and online that you haven't even used yet? Purbeast, your "opinions" here are stellar. Not unfounded at all.

you obviously are on my nuts because you are a nintendo fanboy so i'll explain myself...

the wii controls were total ass and not anywhere near as precise as everyone had hoped.

their online has been total ass on the wii and still uses friend codes for separate games.

so speaking from their track record, i'm assuming they won't make a big jump in any of these areas.

do you really think that big ass 8" controller is going to be as comfortable as a ps3 or 360 controller? really?

May not be such a bad thing if it is, but I will still get it for PC.

Also their online system will probably be much better this time around since they have XBL and PSN to learn from. They already announced they're getting rid of friend codes so that's a good thing.

I saw the Zelda video yeah. It looked good. And seeing it over a live stream will not do justice to what it's capable of IRL.

i didnt see the zelda video, but i saw the "wii sports" one as well as most of the other ones, including hte 3rd party "hardcore" games. from what i saw, they weren't even up to par with what ps3 and 360 currently do. the closeup on the guys face in darksiders 2 was what really looked weak to me, very weak textures and low poly count.

but ... like you said it was a stream, but for now that is all i have to go off of.

so to me, sony won the conferences by a long long long long long shot. nintendo was in a distant second with ms being alone in third.

HOLY SHIT. Metro Last light?

Good god, Microsoft and Sony should be shaking in their boots right now

doubtful.
i know a lot of people bought into the wii hype and felt they were burned after the novelty wore off, myself included.
unless there are definite signs that this is a not just wii HD with a gimmicky LCD controller, they will not be a repeat nintendo customer.

I'm a Nintendo fan, not a fanBOY (I hate that term), and I'll have you know I'm an even bigger PC gamer at heart. So, no, I'm not that biased.

You're comparing apples to oranges. Judging A based off B. That's not exactly valid.

Anything is more comfortable than the PS3 controller.

did you not see the graphics on the demo videos they showed?

Uhh... you just said yourself that you didn't even see the Zelda clip.

In regards to graphics, obviously it won't be that much more powerful than the 360/PS3. However, also keep in mind it's not that hard to top 7-year-old hardware either. If you saw Metro, Darksiders, and Zelda, that's 360 and PS3 level if you ask me.

I agree. Sony I think had the best conference out of the big 3. I am really confused on the Wii U though. Is it just a controller, or is it a whole new console? It is a controller that some how adds new graphical capabilities to the Wii? During the Zelda demo they said it was HD so I assume that means it's a new console???

I don't understand - they just showed a controller. Where's the hardware behind it? Something needs to connect to the TV, and stream the video, no?

I've been bored with Nintendo for a while now, but this new console piqued my interest so I watched. A little disappointed in the result. It's basically just bringing the DS to the Wii.

There's another thing. Any game where you want local multiplayer but some information needs to be kept private for each player. Just as an example, any card game on a standard console would only be playable by one person because with more than that you'd be able to see everyone else's cards. With the Wii U, you could play a game of poker, Scrabble, or any number of other games locally with friends without seeing each other's hands.

Yah, in particular this would work well with selecting plays in a game like Madden NFL.

The problem is that this sort of thing has been done before with GameCube's GameBoy Advance connectivity, and it never worked well. Having the screen integrated to the controller should make it much better, but that might not be enough.

hard to tell from a low quality stream cast but graphics look no better than ps3/360.

I doubt you could tell with the low res stream. There were a few post processing things that I saw in the demo. Motion blur, depth of field. I'll wait to see it in stores first. I'm still meh about the controller. I can definitely see some utility in it though. It would be nice to have a touchscreen and honestly there would be no way that a touchscreen could work in a console unless it was part of the controller. Tacking it on as a separate peripheral wouldn't work. But at the same time, I think that the Wiimote was able to perform most of the functions of a touchscreen adequately. If the controller is light and thin enough I don't think the size will be a problem and it is nice to see that they are placing the emphasis on a more traditional arrangement to pull in more 3rd party support. I really liked the Wiimote for FPS, but I only felt a few titles really got it to work.

All in all, I can sort of see where they are trying to go with this and it isn't surprising given Nintendo's track record.

Its a new console. With a new controller. That also works with wiimotes.

I hope its at least a little more powerful than the 360/ps3, so I can at least enjoy 1080p in current gen games until ms and sony get off their ass and kick off the real next gen.

i actually don't know ANYBODY who bought the wii that kept it around more than 6 or so months. and this is people who are mid/upper 20's. this is about 10 people.

the only ones i do know who have it sitll are the ones with kids, which is understandable.

the Wii U pretty much looks just like a Wii HD with a new gimmicky controller as you stated above.

yea it's early to tell but this thread is to discuss and speculate, and i can pretty much see a repeat of the wii happening with 3rd party support for this console. they will make games the first year or so and when they don't sell for shit, the devs will stop making games for it. hopefully for nintendo's sake im totally wrong.

That's what I figured, but they didn't actually show the console itself. Weird... Anyway they didn't give us a price. That seems like a bad sign doesn't it?

We still have a Wii at home and use it all the time to play party games like Mario Party, Raving Rabbids, and Mario Kart. If the Wii U has a lot of good party games, as well as good core games it will be well worth it; assuming the price is right...

And you can play them at least 6 months earlier on current consoles.
