OFFICIAL NHL Winter Classic thread

I could not find a thread about the winter classic this afternoon so I decided to make one. The game is at 1PM eastern time on CBC and NBC and will feature the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Buffalo Sabres playing on an outdoor rink in front of over 70 000 people.

Here is the NHL.com game preview link

My cousin is going.

I don't get it. $100+ for tickets that require binoculars. I'll have better seats for $0.50 (cost of electricity and cable) at home and a nice 68 degrees with no wind or snow or rain to deal with.

What a dumb-ass idea.

Option 1: Go to hockey game where you're close to the action in a comfortable indoor arena

Option 2: Sit in sub-freezing temps in a makeshift arena where you can't see nearly as well

Who would choose option 2?

You must be pretty soft.

One goal already...

I don't pay too much attention to hockey; does this happen every year? Seems pretty cool to have that many people.

Better soft than stupid. If going to hockey games outdoors was a worthwhile idea they would not have moved the game indoors.

Go eat some soup with a fork to prove how tough you are.

These announcers are pretty funny. Yeah, even though most of these guys have played in an outdoor rink or on a frozen pond, that doesn't mean a lot of them appear to be enjoying the frozen action!

You have completely missed the point and the spirit of this game.

My dad threw Eddie Olczyk (sp?) out of a Pittsburgh arena one time when he was refereeing. He was yelling obscenities about a call my dad made against his son and my dad eventually got sick of it. It wasn't until later that he realized it was Eddie O that he threw out. 😛

BTW, great game so far.

The only thing that could be better than being at this game is watching it on an HD plasma! God I love technology. 🙂

Go Pens!!!

The point of the game is that the NHL is 99.8% invisible in the US and they're trying a dumb idea as a lame ass publicity stunt because it's the only way to get the easily manipulated to pay attention.

"Easily manipulated?" 😕 What did the NHL do to you, kick your dog?

Jeez, grouchy huh? It didn't affect you personally, so why bitch about it? It was a great game and I'm glad they did it.

Some people aren't happy unless they are bitching about something. I got a few tards like that at work, it's fun to fvck with them.
