Are you sold on Tebow anyway? All the stats guys are saying it's not Tebow winning, it's the defense. The numbers seem to bear that out. But I won't say that he's hurting their team. I think he brings a certain optimism to the locker room that helps everyone even if he's not very good at throwing the ball.

Tebow helps keep his defense rested by successfully managing the run game (something Orton could not do even with Moreno), keeps opposing defenses honest with his big-play ability both on the ground and in the air (something Orton could not do even with Lloyd), and he inspires the entire team to be the very best they can be (something Orton could not do if his life depended on it, check out what Miller and Bailey have to say about Tebow).

It's not just Tebow, and it's not just the defense. The entire team is playing much better. I am by no means sold on his ability to keep this up, and I don't expect them to continue to win like this, but he's doing far better than Orton at what his job actually is. There are a lot of places which are content to bottom-feed, sell jerseys, and Suck For Luck for years on end, but that doesn't fly in Denver. In Denver, quarterbacks aren't expected to put up flashy stats or win popularity contests...they're expected to win football games.

Don't think for a second that even Elway will keep his job if he doesn't quickly take the Broncos back to contention.

While it's great that he's recovering (I hate Payton Manning the player, but Manning the human being deserves to live the rest of his life comfortably), you have to wonder if the Colts are secretly rooting for him to retire. His pay then goes off the books and there will be no buyer's remorse over him going to another team and the Colts taking Luck.

I've said that I would literally cry if he retires (and I NEVER cry), but I agree with you -- if there is any substantial risk to his long-term health from continuing to play, he needs to retire. He has a bright future as a coach or commentator and that future may not be there for him if he is paralyzed.

The short answer is yes, yes I am.

Of course the Defense is contributing, hugely. A large part of our success is because of the defense. The whole team has been playing better since Tebow arrived. Tebow is one of the prime reasons too. I don't care what others think, its pretty obvious from someone who watches the team that whatever "IT" factor Tebow has, it rubs off on his teammates.

Ugh, please don't make him answer that.

Don't be mad because the Lions are the new Raiders and will soon take over the lead for the most penalized team in the league. But I suppose a dirty team is befitting of such a dirty city.

The Packers will be coming off like 10+ days rest and preparation for the Giants.. and the Giants will be coming off a short week. Going to be a tough game for the Giants. If the Packers can get up early and force Eli to throw they have a bunch of interception machines in the secondary. That being said, its the NFL and anything can happen.

Wow - D McNabb seems to have made a major miscalculation by asking for his release.

He must have thought the Bears wouldn't be able to pass on claiming him, with him being a hometown boy and all.

I'm actually shocked that he slipped past Chicago and Houston. I figured one of those two would take a serious look at him. Maybe they gambled in hopes that he'd clear the waivers and could be signed for less. At least that's how I think that works. If they claim of the waivers they have to pay out the remaining contract. If he clears then it's a completely new deal right?

Yeah, if he clears the old contract is no more.

Maybe the Bears want to sign him more cheaply, but all of the buzz out of Chi is that they're not interested. I guess that could have been to throw off any waiver takers.

Thankfully the football gods saved me from having to watch the Bills get embarrased again today.

Man I hated watching Marshawn run like a madman Thursday...Why does it seem every decent draft pick they get play like shit here and miraculously play better as soon as they leave.

Peters, Lynch, Whitnor, hell even Maybin had ore sacks against the Bills in 1 game than he had in three years with the team.

I think Ralph needs to sell the team to someone who cares about winning.

I love having DirecTV's "Sunday Ticket." It was free this year, and I'll dump it next year rather than pay the $300+ fees, but for this year at least, I get to watch games that are not broadcast in my area.
Living close to SF, I'm usually stuck with 49er and Raiders games...and I don't like either team.

Today, I'm recording a couple of "minor" games...and watching the Packers game and the Squeakers I mean Steelers game. I expect the Pack will beat the Giants fairly handily, (although it won't be a walk in the park) and I expect to see the Steelers squeak by the Bengals. (and that's not going to be a gimme either.)

Tonight's game...The Saints are going to crush Dee-Troit.

can someone explain to me how the ball can end up 10 yards down field if the QB's hand is not moving forward?

Wow, that was a categorically horrible call in the ATL/HOU game. That official is going to get jumped in the parking lot.
