Well, to their credit, the crease was in the previous generation Solara as well.

I've lost almost all hope in Toyota's stylists after the Prius, Echo, and this new Solara. BOO!!!!!!!!!! What happened to tastefully bland?? This shockingly grotesque stuff has GOT to go.

Yeah, but the crease was more or less straight, it wasn't all "swoopy" and connected to the taillights like that.

I agree that Toyota's designers are sucking A$$ lately. I've never liked the MR2 Spyder either, and some of Lexus' recent offerings are just not good-looking.

Sequoia
Tundra
Tacoma
Sienna
Land Cruiser
Corolla
Camry
GS430
LS430
GX470
LX470

Then you have the mildy wild designs:

Celica
MR2
RX330

Then you have the straight out grotesque (at least IMHO):

ES300
Prius
Echo
This new Solara
 
Yikes, not loving those additional shots of the Armada. It's like the arched roofline of the cab suddenly shoots out at a different angle. The rear is pretty much "blah", they tried to give it some dimension with another "bulged" panel but it didn't work.

It's very radically styled like the Maxima...it's gonna take a while before I get used to the design.

You forgot the SC430, which falls between mildly wild and grotesque IMO. Plus, even Pontiac managed to make the Vibe look better than the Matrix. :Q

Even some of their "straight-laced" designs, as you put it, don't appeal to me, though. I don't particularly like the Camry or the rear ends of the LX and GX470. I don't much like their "edgy" Celica or RX330 either.
Even the cars I think look relatively good, like the Corolla (I know it looks like a Camry but I think it's better proportioned, esp. in the rear) and Highlander are still pretty plain.

Anyway, they've got tons of models, but the design philosophy appears disjointed at best. I think they need a new Supra, myself. 😀

I looks like they got the whole vehicle right except for rear - it's hideous!!! :disgust: The interior looks good, but not super duper great.

I'm not even going to talk about the sentra - my comments are in my thread about the redesign from a week ago. The current design blows that crap away.

Probably because many car companies like to have a "corporate grille" or other "signature" styling cues so their cars are easily identifiable just by looking at them.

Nissan and Mitsubishi have unfortunately adopted this ugly split-grille style. It works OK on the Murano because that car is kind of avant-garde to begin with. It doesn't look good on the Maxima or any of the Mitsus and it really looks tacked-on on the Sentra.

Are the idiots at Toyota trying to kill all hope of bringing hybrid powertrains to the mainstream market? Who the hell is going to buy that POS? At least Honda had enough sense to turn their bread and butter Civic into a hybrid.

Ughh... I hoped that Toyota would unveil the "Prius" as nothing more than a Corolla + electric motor.

Toyota is bringing out a Hybrid RX330 next year and a hybrid Camry the year after.
