Official Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit thread

I need to still download it.. looking forward to it since GT5 is will never be released (and I know they're completely different games...). :x

It seemed OK. I wasn't able to unlock the racer side so I only tried the pursuit mission. It was interesting enough but something about the handling seemed off. Unless I'm missing something it wouldn't let me do a PIT maneuver--maybe that is something that needs to be unlocked? I also had some trouble wearing down the racers on subsequent retries; you have to bump into them pretty violently. Deploying spike strips was satisfying but it doesn't automatically take them out of the race (simply takes away some 'health'), so it actually ended up taking longer to complete by using them.

Also, the pursuit mission is pretty short (I caught all four racers in under 2 minutes).

I did appreciate the throwback to the original NFS games, though, where the car select screen showcases the car you have highlighted, giving history, specs, etc. via text and voice-over while showing off the car.

I liked the presentation and whole style it has going on. I only got to do the pursuit race (dumb how the race is locked till you get a friend that plays the demo too), but the handling felt heavy.

It really seems like Burnout with a NFS skin since you just smash the cars in pursuit mode. I want the game but I'll wait till I find a good deal or something.

i liked it, good stuff.

i agree somewhat with the pursuit mode, it is pretty easy to take people out and does kind of have a burnout feel.

however, the normal race thing, it doesn't feel like burnout nearly as much because you can't just cause crashes by ramming into people. you can still crash, don't get me wrong, but it isnt like burnout where you try to crash the side of em and you crash, seems tougher to cause crashes in the other mode.

and in the other mode, you don't want to crash because it sets you back in the race.

i'm going to pick this up on release for sure, it will be a blast online!

I had really high hopes for this one.

I hated the blur effect. Hated the burnout feel. Hated the handling (been playing too much Forza 3) and hated the corny presentation.

I was really hoping for the same feel of the Windows 95 game back in the day. 🙁

I played the pursuit mode, and it seems like it could get pretty boring if you're just wrecking cars. Surprisingly I actually like the Burnout type games... but they do crashing a lot better.

I tried to play the race mode, and it said it's locked until I have a friend that also has tried the demo. Stupidest fucking thing I've ever seen in a demo.

I thought the demo was god awful. Definitely not a purchase for me. Not even a rental.

The whole thing felt like they were working on a Burnout game and then EA said, "Yo, dudes, we haven't made a good NFS in like, 10 years. Make this a NFS game." Except it wasn't fun. At all.

Why aren't you joining us on Wednesday's then?!

Downloaded it, played it, love it. The race mode in the demo is kinda meh, but the pursuit mode is great fun. It doesn't feel like a Burnout game to me, but it's just the demo and when the whole thing comes out that might change. A couple more demo cop cars would have been nice since, IMO, the 370z in the game is terrible. Incredibly difficult to powerslide and very twitchy. The Crown Vic is incredibly fun, powersliding is easy, control is a lot better, lacks acceleration though but still a damn fun car. For anyone that wants to play the race mode and doesn't have a friend that has the demo, add me KaervakSD6, honestly you're not missing much though at least with the demo. Hopefully the full version race mode is better.

i wish the demo had the mode where YOU are running from the cops. that is always my favorite mode in these games.

i too don't feel like the cop mode has a burnout feel. i mean it has similarities, but you can't make people crash nearly as easily at all. also the handling is a lot tigher than burnout.

i mean i wont lie though, i LOVE burnout games, but in general, i love arcade racers, so I think that is why I like this game.

i thought the game was great. The handling is tough though. If they tweak that it would make the game so much better. The original back on the ps1 was one of my all time favs. The crown vic has been the most fun for me to drive so far then the z4 comes after it. Under 2 on pursuit mode is awesome. I have a 230 time and no one on my friends list has not even come close. I guess we suck lol.

Haven't had a chance to download this yet, but I want to. Does it still have the "urban" crap in it that the NFS series had implemented since Underground? I like customizing my car, but lose the wanna be gangstas please.

heh dude this is pretty much a remake of the NFS:HP that was on PS2 back in the day.

it is about as far from urban as you can get. it is all about imported exotic cars.

not 100% sure but I am pretty sure I remember the McLaren being in the old one.

don't think there was any customization on the old one though, like at all, not sure bout this one.

I was looking forward to this and feel really really disappointed after playing the demo. Not going to be a buy for me until it's on the bargain rack unless the real game is significantly improved.

There was no customization in the first. So long as they stay close to the original with updated graphics, I'll be happy. Oh and the McLaren F1 was in 2, not 3 (Hot Pursuit) as far as I remember. This one did, however, have the McLaren Mercedes and some other strange super car.

Revamped most wanted...

I need to see/play more before i even think about dropping $60, GT5 has my racing time booked at least a year or so.

Played the PS3 version and enjoyed it since I understand that it's a very limited demo. The game as a whole should be much more fun and better than the current NFS offerings.

I played the 360 version the night it came out and wasn't that impressed. I downloaded the PS3 demo last night but haven't played it yet.

I was actually hoping for essentially Burnout with real cars, but the handling feels too loose, and everything is kinda slow. I want to like it, and admittedly I have just done a couple of races in the demo, but I think for me Burnout and Midnight Club LA are better arcade racers.

It's a $20 game maybe. I don't like the fact that the cars handle like shit really. The cars just seem really slow too.

I played the PS3 version last night and think it might even be worse than the 360 demo. Not going to be a release day buy for me.
