I rented Deception last night (along with Aliens Vs. Predator Extinction). As far as the Konquest storyline goes where you're free to run about the country side, the gameplay is very weak compared to Shaolin Monks. It's like they were playing witht he concept with MKD but didn't really get it right until MKSM.

Overall, the game is still pretty fun with the ability to change fighting styles. I'm having a really REALLY hard time remembering all the combos between fighting styles. I can't remember a single multi-style combo either. Oh well, it's pretty fun. I like going through towns and slapping the ($%&! out of random innocent people. :D

Comparing Shaolin Monks and Deception seems a little apples to oranges to me. Deception is a classic MK fighting game (with the konquest mode hastily thrown in). Shaolin Monks is a whole different genre really. A glorified Double Dragon really, although it is a lot of fun.

True. I much preferred the storyline game in SM. It was quite fun.
