Does anyone know how the match making works?

It seems like i just reached a spot where suddenly i'm paired against players that are WAYYYYYYY better than i used to be matched against. And its on every single game. To the point where it isn't coincidence.

I think that as i improved my stats it has increased the level of the competition. Even lower level, non-prestiged dudes- are killin it. I went from leading the game almost every round to being at the bottom. And it happened almost overnight.

EDIT-

Looks like i may have found the answer. Yes, it does. For MW2 it looks like it takes about the last 72 games into account, based on 6 on 6 team deathmatch:

EDIT 2-

Looks like i was right and wrong. They do use skill, but they don't use microsofts trueskill. IW announced it when they announced their new matchmaking service that they dubbed "IWnet"

Community Manager Robert Bowling, "Bowling says IWNET matchmaking allows players to find and join games much easer than scrolling through lists of servers, each with their own rule and mod sets. This new IWNET infrastructure will "automatically find you a game with the best performance, ping, and preferences based on your location and individual connection as well as matching you with players of your same SKILL.'

emphasis on skill was already there, not added by me.

lol those cams seem like they're using mice with all the fancy 360s. I can't believe first went to that lucky noob tuber.

A lucky noob tube shot is as good as three lucky shots with sniper rifles.

What was the point of the 360? If it was just to show off, that doesn't make it any more impressive to me.

that is true - it just pisses me off when I get killed with those grenade launchers

I thought the knife kill was the best as the movement showed he hoped onto a tiny steel beam first before dropping another level and throwing the knife.

Me too, but there is MUCH satisfaction in using it your self.

The last probably 15 matches, that's all I've been doing is Scavenger Pro + Grenade launcher. I'll get bored of it eventually, but for now it's very satisfying.

Oh...man. That's why I was pwning so hard a few nights ago. A friend of mine had a bunch of his noob friends that had just gotten the game, and they were playing in our party. We must have been matched with other noobs, and I was straight pwning....lol. I thought my skill level just increased imensely overnight. I gotta make friends with noobs now...hahaha

Same here. It's funny as hell running around knifing people, stealing packages, and noob tubing, but I get so angry when it happens to me. Especially, getting my package stolen. Had a chopper gunner stolen once. I had to knock it down right away, but it really threw me off my game for the rest of the match.

What do you guys do in the following scenario:

Last night something was totally F'd with my connection at one point, and I ended up being host of a game. Everyone else was red. I was killing people left and right, and praying that the game would auto-change host. I played for about 2 minutes, felt bad, and just left the match.

What would you guys do?

Exactly. I do a lot better when i do a party with my friends. I dont know if it uses the party leader's skill level or if it averages though. There isn't a ton of info out or details on how exactly they are measuring it, but it is clear that it is not level based it is skill based (and skill being a result, im sure, of k/d ratio, score, and taking into consideration how good the rest of the people are)

I'd whip everyone's ass... how do you know that was what was causing it?

The wife and some of her friends are going out for drinks and to see a movie that I've no interest in seeing tonight. Any interest in maybe getting a private match started?

We can mix and match game types.

blowfish, if you're free it'd be a good time to brush up on some skills (there's no ranking involved).

top 5 killcams of the week

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ckUKX1lTrto&annotation_id=annotation_209199&feature=iv

all on xbox or PS3.

awesomely ridiculous.

This video illustrates an excellent flaw in MW2: there is no recoil on any gun if you are in the air. And the kill cam of the week should at least use decent capture devices.

Also, the skill rating is complete BS. I don't want to sound like I am the best ever at this game, but unless the other team is a group of people who play together regularly enough to be an actual team, I'll destroy them all. The other day I had 4 games in a row with a K/D over 10; two of which I went like 40-2 or better.

I'd be down, but i'm busy between 7-930 (pacific time) tonight. Before or after i'm good.

Just wanted to post that I just beat this damn game on Veteran. It was my first and only play through since I borrowed it from my brother. Pretty cheap at times, but not nearly as difficult as I thought it would be from what others were saying.

This game was ass easy compared to COD4

im game for some cod tonight too. but i haven't played in a while b/c holidays and work.

also, wrt those top 5 kills, i dont even understand them. way beyond anything im capable of (except the last one looked like a lucky hit)

I am now back to crappy internet at my apartment (was on Xmas break) and for some reason, I get disconnected from Live every 5 minutes (almost to the dot) while on MW2. But just sitting on the dashboard I never do. What gives?

EDIT: Nevermind finally got disconnected on dashboard as well....argh. Not a MW2 problem then.

Quick question: if you have Cold Blooded on and no silencer, do you show up on the radar when you fire?
