Well, the guys at IGN say this is the killer app for the Wii so far. I hear some Gamestops have it on display, anyone played it yet?

Our Gamestop store has had it on display since last Thursday, but I haven't had a chance to play it yet. From what I've seen across the store of other people trying it out, though, it looks pretty damn good.

I played for a little bit and the controls are very good. I've never been a fan of an FPS on a console until now, but it felt as natural as using a keyboard + mouse. There's pretty much no learning curve to the controls, you can just pick it up and get into it.

This game is great. I only played until the second savepoint (about 15 mins). It took a little time to get used to but the game provides some in-game hints and it is pretty accurate and fun. I read the IGN review and I am going to try turning up the sensitivity tonight to see how that feels. I haven't played a metroid game since super metroid so this 3d fps version is all new to me.

Definitely get used to the advanced controls as soon as possible...they are quite excellent.

I'm about 2 hours into the game, although I'm not very far (the 2nd planet)....its just that the game is so detailed and alive that you dont want to rush through it, you just want to soak it all in. The first major boss fight was also pretty awesome.

The graphics are excellent...not HD, but they look fantastic due to the design. Music is as good as ever, controls are perfect, even the voice acting is top notch. The game is so incredibly polished, with a million nice touches. When you go into the scan visor, you can see samus's reflection, and her eyes even track where you're pointing.

I was going to wait on buying a Wii + MP3 until I sold some stuff I have... but I failed. Can't wait to play it!

The videos I watched that were available for dl on the Wii recently actually turned me off to the game. I dunno if it was because they were low res and stretched out to 16x9 on my 58" tv but I thought the game looked horrible. People said the graphics in Zelda were good and I wasn't that impressed....might rent this one first.

Those were really really terrible quality videos. The quality of the graphics in metroid comes from the smoothness of the framerate (rock solid 60fps) and the art design, which just werent well shown off in those crappy trailers.

Damn, I'll have to buy the component cables now if I buy this game. Like BD2003 just mentioned, and from what I read in the IGN review, it will do 480p 16:9 widescreen at 60fps through the entire game. Just turned into an $80 game for me :D.

You should have bought the component cables anyway. :p

All of the prime games have always been a rock solid 60fps, and they've all had some of the best art design ever (sanctuary in MP2 was incredible), but they really, really took their time with this one and it shows.

They also went a long way towards streamlining it and adding more story, its a lot more cinematic, and the backtracking makes a lot more sense. I've never had a problem with the backtracking in the other prime games, but they have done a good job with it here.

Theres very few games that I can't find something to complain about with, but this is one of them. Its definitely not for the casuals though.

I'm finding this game is pretty cool, but the control makes it very "meh" to me. I feel like with the wiimote, most games are just more of a chore to play than they are fun to play.

Like turning in this game is just annoying. I found myself turning a lot more than I wanted to, it was getting frustrating.

The whole time I was playign i Just wanted a normal dual analog controller instead of the wiimote. And it's kind of lame the way you open some doors where you pull, turn, push ... because every door so far I've opened has had the same exact pattern. It just felt tacked on.

Also being left handed doesn't help at all, because I'm used to moving my character around with my left hand (left analog stick on most controllers) and aiming with my right hand (right analog on most controllers), however using this setup and pointing with my right arm just felt weird. THen trying to do it the other way didn't feel natural because I was doing everything opposite than I'm used to.

I'm going to give it another go though and see if I can get drawn into it. As of now I can't.

Yeah, I think Nintendo somewhat screwed up with the wiimote, it really needs an analog stick, the wiimote really is much better than a stick for aiming, but for quick turns or turns in general, it really kind of sucks...

One stick for forward, backward, and strafing left and right

another stick for character orientation (looking up down and left and right)

and the wiimote for fine tuned aiming where you could shoot at targets you aren't necessarily directly facing...

heck, a wiimote with an analog stick would even nullify the need for the nunchuck, as you could just use two wiimotes - imagine dual wielding...

But Nintendo wanted to keep it simple (the more buttons/doohickeys you have, the more overwhelmed non gamers get), they just kept it too simple IMO.

Although I guess they could still rectify this with the wii zapper, I think that could really work out...but alas, more peripherals to buy...they really are laughing all the way to the bank...

Hmm...never thought about how it'd be weird as a lefty, but I guess that makes sense. If you're turning more than you'd like to, maybe the advanced control setting isnt for you...slightly off dead center and you'll begin to drift. If you're an ace with the wiimote you can be very precise (I'd take it over dual analog any day), but it can be a little difficult to nail down a target or move around fluidly until youre used to it. The standard control setting lets you move the cursor pretty freely until you hit the edges of the screen, and then you'll start turning. Either way, it takes some getting used to...don't let the learning curve of the controls turn you off of one the finest games ever made IMO.

Zelda scored a 9.5 as well.

I think I'm a little past halfway at this point, and I'm just about ready to declare it my favorite game of all time. Which isnt surprising, because it used to be Prime 1. :p

It's really a turn all the lights off kind of game. Every part of the game is so well designed you can just get sucked entirely into the world. But if you're expecting a straight FPS, you'll be disappointed. It's most definitely much more an adventure game.

Also, if you've played the other two prime games, I highly suggest starting on the veteran difficulty. I went with normal, and its painfully easy...I havent even come close to dying once.
