Legion premieres tonight on FX.

Can't say I have heard of this before.. but, saw this comment...

"FX's Legion isn't like any X-Men story you've ever seen. It's better."

Legion, based on the Marvel Comics by Chris Claremont and Bill Sienkiewicz, is the story of David Haller (Dan Stevens) – a troubled young man who may be more than human.

Diagnosed as schizophrenic as a child, David has been in and out of psychiatric hospitals for years. Now in his early 30s and institutionalized once again, David loses himself in the rhythm of the structured regimen of life in the hospital: breakfast, lunch, dinner, therapy, medications, sleep. David spends the rest of his time in companionable silence alongside his chatterbox friend Lenny (Aubrey Plaza), a fellow patient whose life-long drug and alcohol addiction has done nothing to quell her boundless optimism that her luck is about to change. The pleasant numbness of David’s routine is completely upended with the arrival of a beautiful and troubled new patient named Syd (Rachel Keller). Inexplicably drawn to one another, David and Syd share a startling encounter, after which he must confront the shocking possibility that the voices he hears and the visions he sees are the result of him being a mutant.

A haunted man, David escapes from the hospital and seeks shelter with his sister Amy (Katie Aselton). But Amy’s concern for her brother is trumped by her desire to protect the picture perfect suburban life she’s built for herself. Eventually, Syd guides David to Melanie Bird (Jean Smart), a nurturing but demanding therapist with a sharp mind and unconventional methods. She and her team of specialists – Ptonomy (Jeremie Harris), Kerry (Amber Midthunder) and Cary (Bill Irwin) – open David’s eyes to an extraordinary new world of possibilities.

Noah Hawley serves as Executive Producer, along with Lauren Shuler Donner, Bryan Singer, Simon Kinberg, Jeph Loeb, Jim Chory, and John Cameron. Legion is the latest project from Hawley and Cameron, two of the executive producers of the Emmy® and Golden Globe®-winning FX anthology series Fargo.

I've been seeing ads for months on ps vue. I'm disappointed that they decided to create new characters. The x-universe is so big, you'd think they could have a bunch of familiar characters

It does take a certain level of hubris to think you can out-comic the OG's of comic-dom.

I was super excited when I saw the blonde leader of whatever mutant group because I thought it was emma frost. I guess they don't want to burn too many supes for future movies? :(

Yeah I can barely keep up with Flash and Arrow. At least with Netflix I can watch them on my own time.

I'll probably watch the pilot to see how it is, but like you guys have said, too many comic book tv shows now. Only have seen a few, but off the top of my head, I can think of:

-Marvel Agents of Shield/Agent Carter
-Daredevil
-Luke Cage
-Jessica Jones
-Iron Fist (coming out soon I think)
-Flash
-Arrow
-Supergirl
-Gotham
-Smallville

I'm a bit torn on that subject. This looks to be (haven't seen the episode yet, have it on the DVR) it's own universe, so spending X-characters would be burning them. They rarely get the characters right in the first place so them creating new ones works better for me. I am expecting Frost to show up in the New Mutants movie, if not before then with the next X-Movie.

Anyone have any thoughts on the first episode? I enjoyed it - worth seeing where it goes IMO.

This has been getting really good reviews, considering it's a super hero show. I'll wait until it's mostly done and try to remember to watch it.

Didn't get a chance to see it yet, it is on my TODO list.
Critics do seem to like it, dunno if that is good or bad, since lots of times I think the critics are just paid shills.

I watched it the other night and hated it. It was way too artsy for my liking. It wasted 20 mins in the beginning hammering the set up in, and didn't get much better afterwards. It's really decompressed story wise, so it might pick up, but man.. that was such a shit opening.
Legion himself appears to be just crazy hearing voices and seeing people rather than the multiple personalities each having their own power set. My guess is that's too hard to explain so they just went he's a really powerful telepath/telekinetic that's crazy.. in case you missed the he's crazy part, don't worry.. you'll see them mention it again and again for an hour and a half. In fact, that's pretty much most of what they get into. Not much on the groups that want him, not much on the woman, or anything else apart from he's powerful and crazy.. I haven't seen such a fumble of a story premise in a long time. I've been a fan of comics for over 20 years.. I'm used to crappy translations of comics to screen. This one so far hasn't bothered to be anything close to comics other than the name of the main character.
I'm hoping that it'll change and pick up within the next couple of episodes. If it doesn't I'm going to drop it.

Probably since Fox only has rights to use certain Marvel characters. Same reason why Marvel movies can't even use the word mutant.

I just watched the first 2 eps, and as someone who knows nothing about this character or the comics I liked it. It wasn't perfect, kind of disjointed and hard to follow at first, but it works for me so far.

Hey OP, can you edit the thread title to be about the TV show in general and not just the premier? Like, "Official Legion (TV Show) Thread" or "Legion (TV Show)" or what have you?

Also, last night's episode? Holy shit that was awesome. This show keeps getting crazier and crazier, and I love it.

Yay

Now, let's talk about the show, people! I can't believe there hasn't been much conversation on it thus far. Probably a show more people are waiting to binge through. Hopefully it pulls enough numbers to warrant further seasons, IF the show was written with that in mind. A one season series is perfectly fine, if it doesn't leave us hanging.
