I have some of these at home and can answer any questions you may have.
Basically it's a Pearl with a higher resolution screen on the inside. On the outside the external notifications set this device apart from the crowd. You can set an option that allows you to preview emails, SMS or any other notification on the front screen without opening or unlocking the device. This feature alone is fantastic for checking mails in a meeting without appearing rude. The volume control button scrolls between the new messages.
Size wise, and I know a lot of you are bothered about this, it's pretty much the same as the candy bar Pearl. It IS a little thicker, bit not so you would notice in your pocket. The length is a little shorter than the 8100.
The keyboard is huge. It's probably the largest SureType KB they have produced since the 7130. Typing on it two-thumbed needs a new hand position in comparison to the Candy Bar, but you soon get used to it.
8220 runs the 4.6 OS, so you get all the goodies you would get on the Bold, except no GPS. WiFi only at this stage.
