1st Trailer is out (from ComicCon 2022):

Holy GunFu Batman!
1658672150255.jpeg
Close range combat with both having Katanas, guns, and body armor.

In JW3's sword scene, did the chief bad guy cut John Wick through his carbon fiber suit?
or was it just stabbing through the suit?

Release date: 3/24/23

There were 3 already? I only remember the first one.

I hope it doesn't end up being dumb and cheesy like what happened to Ip Man sequels.

It's not as bad as Ip Man. I still really like the first one in that series, but it just kept getting significantly worse with each entry. (I have seen the latest one too.) Although, I do think John Wick gets worse with each film too, but I say that as someone that only mildly enjoyed the first one.

JW1 was already bit cheesy to begin with... I liked it for what is was, but even then there was a bit of campiness to it.

I remember JW2 now. It was just underwhelming. I should check out 3.

Isn't that the way it almost always goes with sequels?

Movies like John Wick 2 etc are great for watching the action-scenes on YT since that way you don't need to suffer through the inane writing/plotline and wooden acting.

I'm sure it will make plenty of money with all the mindless action though.

Yeah well most movies are probably written without sequels in mind. Original idea is great but once it's successful the industry just wants to milk it for all it is worth as fast as possible. It might have been better to just have Wick get back into the business and crank out movies based on new jobs instead of this constant escalation arc.

So I saw 3. I realized I did watch it before.

This is about right. 2 was too pretentious and it was rather bit dull. 3 was laser focused on a clear corner JW was backed into. And the resulting action was amazing. Well done.

I'm 1/2 way done with jw4.
fights are awesome and realistic.
meh on the bad scripting.

Bad guy goes to the Japan Continental.
1st he says he wants to search the place.
When the hotel mgr gives him pushback he then announces that the hotel is deconsecrated.
Wha?

Now the one of one fight with the Marquis:
John wants his freedom if he wins.
But what's in it for the Marquis?
What does John have to offer? Why would he accept such a challenge?

Maybe i'll find out after i watch the 2nd half?

Disputes between families in the high table are settled with duels, rather than all out wars which will cause chaos. That's why Pennywise...err...Marquis Vincent Bisset de Gramont...had to accept. Working on memory, but I believe John's "family" is one of the lesser families. This lesser family does not sit at the High Table, but is powerful enough that certain rules must be followed.

Also, the Marquis is tasked by the High Table with taking out Wick. So that's what is in it for him.

The overhead fighting scenes was a bit cartoony.

i am now 3/4 of the way through it.

1) Why didn't John's 'family' that backed him for the duel have a representative at the rules meeting?
Their necks are on the line too since if John loses, the 'family' dies.

2) Liked the realism of the running street gun fight in Paris when John's gun jammed.
I wonder was it planned or ad hoc and Keanu just went with it?

3) Why the hell arent any of the mercs in that gun fight wearing body armor?
4) Why wasnt the car driven by the bad guy's chief enforcer bullet proof?
They certainly have the $ for it.

5) Why not have a padded ski mask with that same bullet proof material as his suit???

6) Why isnt the Enforcer and his men using armor piercing bullets since they know John is wearing that suit???

7) John's PitViper a bad ass gun looking gun ($7k):

8) Same question for John.
He knows the Enforcer and his men wear the same bulletproof suit as him.
Why not have a mag of armor piercers?

9) Stupid flashy show for effects instead of practicality:
You enter a gun fight carrying ballistic PLATE armor and put it on in the MIDDLE of the fight??

Finished it. 7.5/10

Great fight scenes.
Not as convoluted as jw2 but not as good as jw3.

Too many things done for effect for the audience such as the mercs stepping out of the shadow when Wick reach the bottom of the church stairs.
WHY wait?
With that many henchmen, just set up snipers up high for head shots.
but Plus points for these mercs wearing body armor.

Also, too many clichés.
A blind man could have seen saving the dog.

As for the final fight:
Yeah, i knew something was up when they (both expect marksmen) only gave each other a grazing wound at 30 paces.
the Marquis falling for that was so meh!

I liked how john took off his belt and all his spare mags dropped symbolizing he's done.

Now why did jw3 so carefully let the lady Adjudicator live only to have her replaced by the old guy with white beard??
Why didnt she came back to reprise her role?

JW1 and JW2 had two great scenes that really pulled you in. This is something that seemed missing from JW3 and JW4. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed them and they had many memorable scenes, but they didn't have that memorable scene.

JW1 had the Baba Yaga scene.

JW2 had the "suiting up" scenes, where he goes shopping for new threads and new boom sticks.

I kinda miss the campiness and originality of JW1. Remember those corny animated subtitles whenever they spoke in Russian? lmao

i thought that added a lot of flavor/punch to the lines. though i will say i enjoyed the redux of the club music from JW1. damn that is a good beat.
