Flip ? What do you mean. Im also thinking taking the free RAZR from amazon and hopefully returning it within their 30 day period?
I am pretty sure that by flip he means to buy a subsidized phone that sells well and high, sell it elsewhere and use money towards a phone you want.

Razr is a bad option both for flipping and buying, Nexus is slightly better. But they both still pale come MWC in Feb.

Duh I dont know why I asked that lol. An iphone would be nice to resell but amazon doesnt offer them for free. I want the Nexus in the end as most of the phones at MWC wont be coming til next fall anyways.

Fall in the US, yes.
They will probably be out in the UK in April-May though. The Galaxy S2 was released in April I think. It also debuted at $900 retail.

Yup. Even profitable when exporting out of USA, especially at launch.

While I am not willing to pay launch prices, I'll consider importing SGS3 as soon as it's price drops. This Nexus is the most tempting one but I think SGS3 will beat the Nexus much like the SGS2 did with the Nexus S. I may be a little too enthusiastic here but I do expect SGS3 to be a great phone. It's very reasonable to expect that it will be the earliest 2012 phone with specs eligible to receive the update to Android 5.0 (Jellybean?)

Kinda silly to talk about future phone receiving future updates but it's good to consider if you don't switch phones every year, possible keep them even longer.

is it possible to activate an international GNex on a US CDMA network like sprint?

I am thinking no, but I really want this phone so I figure I'd ask.

So, I'm currently based in Germany. I don't see Galaxy Nexus phones available anywhere. Don't they typically release in Asia, first? And if so, can I get a friend in Beijing to buy one for me, and ship it to Germany - without issue? I note that people are talking about different carrier networks and I thought that modern phones covered all the major networks (my old iphone 3G has worked in Germany, China, UK, all over southern europe etc.)

any idea on how long SGS3 will be? I'm hoping to upgrade in Spring next year.

I would guess it will be announced at Mobile World Congress in February and released in May. This is exactly how it went with the Galaxy S II.

Hopefully it won't be another 5 months after that before we get the US carrier-customized versions!

Forget the SGS3. I want the SGS4.

Non-pentile 720p screen. Quad core SoC with the gaming power of the Playstation Vita. Thinner than a credit card.....

There is always something better around the corner.

Cest la vie, I never ever think that way when buying electronics unless its over a month or two old.

As I said in another thread the SGS2 came out end of May/Early June in Europe/Asia. Many countries didnt' get it til later in June. My point is that supplies are limited at launch and to get it in the US shipped internationally would be like $900 probably at launch. I have friends who got the SGS2 in July but paid $700 or so.

Sure you could possibly snag up a SGS3 at launch, but most likely, people would be waiting til late June/early July. That gives you 7-8 months. And if you're waiting for carriers or waiting for a more reasonable time frame, I'd think August-September, giving you 9-10 months on your SGS2.

So in no way is the SGS2 outdated yet. You still have plenty of time.

Who are you going to use it with? What plan?
I was this close to ordering it, but I know nothing of how prepaid sims work.

I am on ATT. will be using it on my current plan replacing my nexus one. I believe I will simply need to swap the sim from my n1 to my GN

I agree there is always something better around the corner... but I was merely asking because my contract runs out in April I think. So it might be worth waiting a month or two instead of getting the SGS2.

The SGS1 had a delay of several months between its launch in Europe and its US launch. Same with the SGS2. And both times, the US versions had extensive design changes. In some of the SGS2 models, the SoC was changed. If you want an SGS3, fine, but don't hold your breathe between the Euro launch and the US launch. :p
