i like the genre although i havnt seen one that lived up to the mini-series that influenced my liking of it when i was a child...I, Clauduis. however, that book was amazing as were the actors invovled.
is there anything that even comes close?

I'm big sucker for historical dramas, so even if it sucks, chances are I will still like it. :)

It was OK. More setting up characters than anything.

It seems to have great promise, though. I'll definitely watch it some more.

It was strange watching an HBO show without profanity, though.

I kept expecting someone to yell "c0cksucker!"

Looking forward to watching it tonight. Classics was one of my majors, and it's been great to see more "Sword and Sandal" epics in TV and Movies lately. :)

I'll sign up for HBO again when "The Sopranos" and "The Wire" are back on the air :)

Well, second episode. Any further thoughts?

Plot is starting to pick up a bit. Anyone watching the HD feeds...did tonights HD feed seem VASTLY superior to last weeks feed quality? Much more clear and bright. Last weeks picture quality was pretty poor for HD.

I've yet to really get connected with a character like I did with Deadwood. But it's only two episodes in. Deadwood took 3-4 episodes to really grab onto me. But so far I'm just not seeing as strong acting as Deadwood provided.

I think this show is similar to Deadwood in the matter of it taking a while for things to stir up. Eventually Pompei and Caesar will go to war against each other, which should be interesting to watch. I agree that I don't feel connected to any of the characters up to this point. The guy who was away from his wife for 8 years comes the closest.

The first one was little more than a dramatic introduction to the key players, I'm about to watch the second one right now.

You missed it last night. Great show. Plot seems to be picking up every week, previews for next week look awesome.

Oh, and Indira Varma is HOT.

Agree. I love this show. I used to be in the "only have HBO when sopranos is on" boat (which isn't a bad plan btw), but for whatever reason I didn't get rid of it after season 5. Glad I have it to watch Rome.

I want to see it...so bad...it looks SOOOO good. I've never been able to imagine Rome in colour. Only in that limestone white.
