I hope they release a <$500 6C/12T Haswell-E chip this time, though I wouldn't hold my breath. :p

It would be silly yes. But that never stopped anyone from buying things.

This is an enthusiast forum so I assume a number of people would get it. I wouldn't consider myself an enthusiast when it comes to purchasing (I rarely upgrade/purchase new pc stuff), but if I had the disposable cash, I would purchase it. I think it'd be nice to use for video encoding. If I understood VM's more, that too.

I'd be more surprised if there wasn't a member here who had one.

But I'm happy with my 4770k. Best processor I could have at the moment considering I made my machine so that I wouldn't have to purchase a console. I need to get Dolphin running next.

Would a 6 core be any better than a quad with hyper threading? I'm not sure. 6 real cores VS 4 cores + 4 virtual. I think it might be about even.

Enthusiast isnt the same as buying the most expensive there is or wanting the most expensive. I think you got those things mixed up.

Who's getting a haswell 8 core for gaming? Would that be stupid?
No not really, most games right now don't use anymore than 2 cores with an exception of very few games that take advantage of 4 or more cores. But that's going to change pretty soon since most game devs uses the console as their development platform and the current gen uses 8 cores.

Right now I have no trouble with any game I play with the 3770K and I can leave vmware or virtualbox with Linux running and a few other things going in the background.
