OFFICIAL Halo 3 Screen Capture thread.

No Lifer
So I officially think that the theatre mode in Halo 3 just kicks major MAJOR ass. I just wish there was some way to get videos onto the internet easier than having to run a capture card and what not.

However it IS easy to get screen caps online 😛

Here are some I took last night.

Took one for the team.
Foot in your mouth!
SPLAT!
Sticky double kill.

The first one was pretty hilarious. I saw some guy pointing the laser at me so I just started ramming towards him. As you know it takes time to charge the laser so I thought I had time to ram him. When I was literally 2 feet from him, his laser goes off and kills me. However since I was so close to him the mass of the ghost still killed him 😀

SIMPLE TUTORIAL FOR THOSE WHO DONT KNOW

go to theatre mode.

it records your last 25 games or 400 megs, whichever fills up first, automatically.

to get an idea of the space constraints, a typitcal multi player game is like 9 megs or so. I think a whole campaign mission of mine was like 17 megs or so, can't remember.

so it records both single and multi.

you can move the camera all around the map and view anything on the map at any given time. you can record video clips as well as take pictures. the pics however can be viewed online, whereas the videos can't because they are all rendered in game and not actual video files.

here's my pics on bungie.net, everyone has somethign like this.

you can get the hi-res pics by saving them from those ones there.

Here's a link to my videos.

although the videos can only be viewed in game. if anyone has a chance to heh, check out my "touchdown" video. that one amuses me 😀

EDIT 2

Hey guys check this out, I did it up in my spare time over the weekend ...

I personally enjoy looking at Halo 3 screens, but it's kind of hard to view a bunch all in one place.

So I put together ...

Halo 3 Screen Shots.

Not trying to spam it or anything, but I figured this thread is a good place where some people may be interested in it 🙂

So how do we take pics? Just pause the came and then take one or what? And does this only work in MP?

This feature along with game clips is f'ing awesome. I tried uploading a pic from mp and I thought it worked but I checked my Bungie page and no pic. And if they somehow could have teamed up with youtube and have the videos automatically uploaded it would have been incredible.

I uploaded 4 pics, but they haven't shown up on the bungie website. Everything is so slow in updating, I wonder if some stuff will be lost along the way, as far as games and stats.

did you actually go into settings/fileshare and select a open box and upload it that way?

i take it you like the hammer. 😛

and also, most of your pics are pretty uninteresting 😛

Mine are uninteresting, also 😀

I took one screenshot of master chief pointing the sniper rifle straight at the camera so I could set that as my desktop background.

I really think I could spend an equal amount of time replaying games in the theatre as I do actually playing the games.

Did you see that you can buy 250 MB of space for your videos for 750 points? That's a heck of a lot compared to 25 MB

Yea I saw that, and I think I'm going to do it heh. I already have 250 points in there so it's 500 more points.

Also keep in mind, it's 750 points per year for that storage space, it's not just a 1 time fee for a flat rate. I read it over on bungies website, and it's actually pretty fair I would say because they do go into the point that they don't have any ads on their site and don't plan on doing so, which is part of the reason they are charging for more space and BW usage from users.

Fair enough IMO.

Here's one of my favorite screens so far, and it's not mine. It's some dude on my friends list.

Two birds with one stone.

No, I chose the "save and upload" option. I guess it doesn't upload, then? 🙂

I saw that last night, and had read about it previously. I didn't know it was only for one year, though, which isn't that big of a deal. I saw the option in the menu last night, and selected it to see where it would take you, but this was the time that the marketplace was completely fubar 😀. The option then disappeared from the menu list and didn't come back, so I'm assuming it will either come back the next time I boot the game, or I can go into the marketplace manually and choose it. I may do it, because I'm sure I won't be playing this that much come another year from now that I would want to continue storing stuff.

I'm not sure as I can't remember exactly what I selected since I'm at work, but I know that whatever I did I had to go in a second time to actually upload it and have it show up on bungie.net 😀

I figured out where I was going wrong. I would hit the autoname and save button, and after it would save, it would then pop up a note in the lower left that says it is uploading to bungie.net. I'm not sure what that does, but I finally just uploaded to my 6 slots. However, at bungie.net, there is a tab for your file slots, but there is also a tab for high-res screenshots. How can I get pictures in the screenshots section?

And here are 3 random pics of me blowing people up with the rocket launcher.

Well, to reply to my own post, I was just checking out some friend's bungie.net pages, and happened upon yours, chris. You have 5 screenshots in your screenshot section, and it has this note to the side:

30 of your most recent screenshots will be automatically saved when you take a picture in the game. If you reach more than 30, older screenshots will be deleted when new ones are added.

I wonder why none of mine are showing? Are you doing something different with yours?

I just click on start, then go to the settings tab on the menu. Then go down to fileshare. You'll see a bunch of open available "boxes". Select one, then select the type of media you want to upload. You'll see it uploading, and it will show up on bungie.net right away 🙂

I don't know why it says it automatically saves them online because it doesn't for me... at least I don't think it is.

edit: oh and my screenshots are pretty bad 😉

Ok, I think I found the answer in bungie's Halo 3 FAQ. It states the following:

Also please note that screenshots will not appear in your Bungie.net gallery until you have put at least one item in your file share. Once you do that and the relationship is established, you?re good to go!

It's supposed to upload 30 screenshots automatically as you save them, and once you go over 30, it just continues to push the old ones out. I have not saved any screenshots since I uploaded my first file, so I'll test it tonight to make sure the pics show up now after they are uploaded automatically.
