OMG! NDS GTAIV officially confirmed!

 I hadn't even thought about that possibility, but that's great. It really would be cool if they did a GTA IV DS in the style of GTA 1/2. They made GTA for the GBA.

But yeah, I meant I was charging it so I could play Advance Wars while waiting in line. :)

You're the reason I'm not going to go get the game at midnight.

 Why? I'm not going to get there early and wait. I'm planning on getting there just before midnight, and I figure I'll have to wait a while because of that.

Mugs, you might want to call your EB/Gamestop and find out how long after midnight they're going to sell the game. When I talked with the guys where I pre-ordered they said thay had to wrap things up quickly and were going to stop selling the item at 12:50 because the registers needed to be shut down at 1AM for the new day cycle? It kinda sounded like crap to me, but I figured I would atleast give you a heads up to avoid a possible frustrating situation if there is a long line.

Also, they basically suggested I get there at 11:15PM at the latest. YMMV.

Why can't I pre-order the PS3 version from Circuit City? That not working for anyone else?

Hmmm... maybe I'll give them a call. I have a friend coming over to play some games tonight, so I doubt I'll get there that early. Mine is paid in full already, so I'd hope I don't have any issues getting it. I can survive until morning if it comes to that.

Wasn't sure I would play it the day it came out, but after seeing that gametrailers video, i walked over to the EB games about 5 blocks from here and they confirmed that i will have it tomorrow, or tonight at midnight if i desired.

Hasn't he been disbarred yet?

It's amazing that he hasn't. I don't really care though since his power and reputation have screwed his career for life. I'm sure other organizations and people would love to put up a fight (*ahem* Hilary!), but we are all getting our copies before changes are enforced so its all good. :D

I'm excited to see what the Rockstar Social Club has to offer.

Especially things like this.

Well, as always, being the most recent resident former Gamestop employee, I'll comment on this :p. I've not worked there since last September, so take anything I say with a grain of salt, since policies could have changed in the past 7 months.

On the midnight Halo 3 launch, people started waiting in line around 8 or 9pm that night. They had a system where everybody was told to line up on one side of the door and down the shopping plaza. The store closed at 9pm, and at around 9:30, we "re-opened", where nobody was allowed in to do basic shopping, this was just to get everybody's receipts ready. We let in about 5-10 people at a time, where we had them fully purchase the game (along with whatever else they wanted, like a console or Halo trinkets). We marked their receipt with a colored marker that showed they had already "picked up" or "paid" for their Halo 3 copy, which we wouldn't give to them until midnight, and then we sent them to line up on the other side of the door.

We did this until about 11:50pm, to give us 10 minutes to get our stuff ready inside and to filter the people in and back out quickly. We were able to get the line in and out, and basically anybody who showed up before 11:50pm was able to get in and get their copy paid for, then back out into the pickup line for midnight. Anybody that showed up after 11:50pm was sent to the back of the pickup line, and were allowed to complete a normal purchase of the game after we cycled through the people already in line. When midnight hit, people brought in their receipt, we marked it with a different color marker, then gave them their copy of the game.

We had 200 people in and out by 12:15am, it was a very efficient system. Then we got to the people who didn't show up early enough, and completed regular transactions for them. We didn't get the last person out until almost 1:15am.

So, moral of the story is, you should be fine if you get there at 11:30 at the latest. Also, if it's 12:50am, they will NOT refuse your purchase and everybody else in line...to think they would is ridiculous. If you can't make it before 1am in the morning, then you don't really understand the meaning of a "midnight launch". :p

NOOOOO!!!! HAHA! DAMN!

So I had to go to Target because I needed to pick up some supplies and I figured I would check (just incase!) the VG section to see if it was on shelves early. Who knows, right?

When I stopped by the clerks were rearranging the whole section and everything was scattered about. I asked one of the clerks if they had GTAIV for either system and one of the ladies pointed to the shelf and there were a tag reading "GTAIV $59.99". I beamed, "Yes!". She smiles and said, "Oh ok, let me see here...", as she scanned the barcode on the shelf. She then turned to me "we have a bunch in the back, want me to get it for you?". I beamed once again, "Yes!" She disappears into the back and I began planning how on earth I was going to break it to my boss that I became deathly ill during my lunch break. She makes her way back 2 mins later with the game in hand "here you go", but out from the back comes running the manager, sweating profusely yelling "Janet! Hold up! Hold up! No--we absolutely cannot sell that until tomorrow sorry SIR!" grabing it from her hands. It was 5 feet from me.

I couldnt help but laugh--SO CLOSE! :p

I'm starting to regret pre-ordering this online. The game sounds so great I really want to play it tonight. B&M FTW! (too bad I lose)

So go buy it from a B&M and then return the copy you bought online once you receive it. :)

This may be what I do. I just checked and my online order status hasn't changed to "shipped" yet. So that means I'm probably looking at 2-3 days more waiting. I'm not going be able to hold out that long.

Oh, I HIGHLY doubt you misunderstood. It's a general given that most Gamestop managers and employees are ignorant. Sounds like they were trying to cover their bases to get you there earlier, because trust me, they don't want to be there all night waiting for people to filter through, they want to go home and play, too.

On Halo 3 launch night, they had me on the schedule until 1am. The manager was an asshat and made up stay until the entire store was cleaned up. Given that I wanted to play Halo 3 and that I had an actual day job that paid me 3-4x more than what they were paying me, I ended up walking out at 2am when I couldn't stand it anymore. :)

Should be interesting to see what the politicians have to say about it.

I didn't see anything more racy than a barely clothed lapdance. You could get the same in Vice City.

Edit: I've only watched the review though.
