Senior analyst Billy Pidgeon of the Zelos Group commented on the price drop saying, "If you're going to sell the GameCube for under $149, you're losing money...they're throwing their margin away, basically dumping them."

growing up on nintendo, it's hard watching them ever so slowly dwindle. oh how the mighty have fallen.

i wish they would change their attitude and just take over the videogaming world, but that's doubtful.

edit: it's also weird that gba-sp and gamecube are now at the same price...

Dwindle? The gamecube did a lot better than the N64.

If it was $20, had any games worth playing, wasn't a kiddie machine, and the controller wasn't made for midget children then maybe I'd buy it. If I had $20 burning a hole in my pocket.

I'd advice anybody to ignore the above if it upsets them. It's pure flame bait so don't take it!!

HAHHAHAhAhAAAA!!! So true.

Nintendo knows what they are doing.

$99 Gamecube plus new Star Wars game equals lots of consoles sold.

You guys have to remember a majority of parents who buy consoles for their children recognize the Nintendo name, they will be enticed by the $80 savings over an Xbox and PS2, and they will most likely buy a Gamecube for their child.

Ahahah kiddie console!!

IGNORE THE FLAME BAIT!!

I'd buy one. It's not a "kiddy" console. Anyways who cares mario SSB and other great games on the cube. Hell you could almost classify the pc as "kiddy" since the most popular game recently ahs been the sims + expansions......

You said it's not a kiddy console but then mentioned mario as the first game that is great 🙂 I haven't seen many 6 year olds play the sims! What would define a kiddy console? One that is aimed more towards kids than another console, correct? Well if you're buying your 8 year old a console what do you get? I think you'll find the numbers dictate you're more likely to buy him a gamecube.

Anyway I've debated this in the past, so carry on 🙂 $99 is pretty sweet, and IF you wanted to buy a gamecube (you had small hands, nostalgia of childhood, etc.), then it would be a great buy!

I like how Nintendo is right now. Not catering to the gorilla handed horny gamer, and staying true to its roots.

It's what separates them from the mix, but it's not helping them at this stage. They should stick true with kiddie roots on the next gamecube, but they need to get some serious adult content if they want to attract people like me (and by adult I mean blood and guts and other things of that nature). Not sure if they could hold kiddie roots while having manly games like grand theft on it though.

Nintendo has no desire to attract gorilla handed horny gamers. If the person requires blood and guts to acknowledge the greatness of a game, then they are the ones in need of growing up.

Microsoft won't be willing to lose money forever on their hack boxes. Next generation flop.

It's not like all their games are kiddie. They've got all the Resident Evil games, Dead to Rights, Ghost Recon, Splinter Cell, Soul Calibur 2, Eternal Darkness, Metroid, Bloodrayne, Enter the Matrix, Hitman 2, Star Wars Rogue Squadron 2 & 3, X2 Wolverines Revenge, 007 Agent Under Fire, Medal of Honor Frontline, Time Splitters, etc, etc, etc. True, they may not all be winners and they're not as "adult" as Grand Theft Auto, but they're a far cry from Barbies funhouse or something like that.

I have 50+ N64 games, all of which I have played over 30 hours per game. I own 6 GC games, which I have played for over 30 hours.

How is that better?

Um, that's just _your_ experience in relation to the two consoles.

I played a lot more on my N64, too... but I was in college then.
