no offense, but how is that functional? you can't even see the names of your open programs in the taskbar????? why not just keep your taskbar on the top or bottom? either that or widen the taskbar

well.. there's pictures.. I know what's there.. names are just redundant info. the task bar holds more things without needing to be double or triple tall, or growing a scroll bar, on the side. wider is more intrusive. I'd skinny my aim thing down more if I could, but that's as small as I can get it to go.

if it works well for me.. that makes it.. functional. yes?

well, i guess so. i make my desktop my way and it works for me. if i wanted it any other way, i'd change it. same goes for everyone else. i still wouldn't be able to get used to that though!

it took me a couple days to get used to it on the side, but I don't like grouped windows, I don't like it any bigger than it has to be (17" screen.. there's cabinets over my desk so bigger won't fit) and I *hate* it when my task bar grows a scroll button! but I *need* 57 browser windows open sometimes (heh.. or.. 10, anyway). so.. putting it on the side was easy, and resolved the issue.. it was weird at first but.. I really like it there now. it'd be perfect if I could upside down it (the start button bein' up top was most awkward for me to adjust to).

looking at these threads the last couple weeks has been educational, I've enjoyed it. the thing I've seen I most might like to add myself is the calendar laying there on the desktop.. someday maybe I'll get curious enough to figure out how to do that.
