Not familiar with the book, but Clint Eastwood's track record as a director has been nothing short of astounding. I'm looking forward to this film.

I very much look forward too this. Clint is the director of several of my all time favorite movies. I also really like war movies a lot. I just hope I don't set my expectations too high. I mean, the guy friggin Directed The Outlaw Josey Wales and Unforgiven, two of the greatest masterpieces in film history ... How can I NOT set my standards too high.

Yeah, a while ago I was reading the Wikipedia article on the people who raised the flag at Iwo Jima.

im kind of curious to see how clint directs this movie. usually we see him deal with dramas with some action and such, but this is going to be pretty much a war movie. not that i dont think he's up to the task, just kind of interested to see how he approaches it after seeing how coppola and spielberg handled it quite well after a history of making drama's also.

The trailer will appear on August 9, showing prior to Oliver Stone's World Trade Center. Should be better than SPR...it's based on reality. The book is amazing, so Clint has a big mountain to climb if he wants to even match expectations!

Wow...

His son James Bradley (who wrote a book about the flag-raisers in 2000 titled Flags of Our Fathers) speculated that his father's determined silence and discomfort on the subject of his role in the Battle of Iwo Jima was largely due to memories of John's best friend, Ralph "Iggy" Ignatowski. Ignatowski was captured, dragged into a tunnel by Japanese soldiers during the battle, and was later found with his ears, eyes, and fingernails removed, his teeth smashed, the back of his head caved in, multiple bayonet wounds to the abdomen, and his severed genitalia stuffed into his mouth. Bradley's recollections of discovering and taking care of Ignatowski's remains haunted him until his death.

The Japanese version of the teaser/trailer has been released.

View it here.

(The USA teaser/trailer has been pushed back to September 8 so I've read.)

Greetings from Baden-Baden, Germany. I fly back home tomorrow!

I read in Rolling Stones' fall movie preview that Clint enjoyed making the film so much, he has signed on to do another film that covers Iwa Jima from the Japanese perspective.

Great book as well -- I read it a few years ago.

the thing I dont like about these previews is it is not what the book was about. Sure the book had a lot of the history of Iwo Jima, but one of the main points I felt that the book covered was a son searching for who is father, this seems to skip that whole thing.

Dont get me wrong, It looks good, but its missing one of the things that made the book fantastic

This movie (and it's counterpart) are going to kick so much ass. Good luck to other films for best director and picture.

Granted, it's still very early in the Oscar season...I can't wait. :D
