Sorry to revive this thread. It has now been a few months and I still won't turn on my 360 after what ff13 did to it. The only gaming I do now is on my iPad. FU FF13, you ruined console gaming for me.

Sad to hear that FF13 killed Xbox gaming for ya. Oh well, guess that clears up one more spot on my almost full XBL friends list.

Wait what?? Did the game physically do something to your xbox? Otherwise that sounds pretty retarded.

there have been many reports of FF13 killing PS3 and xbox systems. they freeze up then just don't work right

it kept freezing my PS3 so i took it out and haven't played it. i don't want to kill my PS3.

hell there is a class action lawsuit against them.

Huh, weird. I have not had a problem with it. Did they say what it may be specifically related to?

I just got this game from amazon a couple of days ago. Aside from portables (FFs for gameboy, FFT1/2 for DS, and ff7 crisis core for PSP ), I have not played a "Final Fantasy" game since FF1.

I'm about 13 hours into the game and enjoying it for the story. I was fully aware that it was very very linear, and I actually liked this. I wanted to enjoy a story instead of run around mindlessly grinding on crap, and being able to skip fights is nice.

The "real time" combat wasn't exactly what I was expecting, it's more like RT Strategy to me.

So far, chapter 5? was extremely monotonousness with the repetitive, reused map.

I have never heard of a report on it killing xbox systems except for your unsubstantiated statement. However, there is indeed a class action on it freezing PS3 systems, just google it.

I've heard of it freezing a few PS3 consoles but I've never heard of the Xbox 360 having any issues with the game.

Sad to say, it only gets worse. It's like the developers said "fuck it" and gave up on the story. It turns into a giant sandbox that has been used as a litter box.

there are a few. when i was looking for information and hopefully a fix for the PS3 version there are a few articles and forum post about it freezing and bricking XBOX's. nowhere near the level that is happening on the PS3 though

D: at 17 hours in, I'm at the early part of Chapter 7.

Thankfully, it's been a little less boring, with more save points and cut scenes and less combat. I really wish I could just progress through the story without having to fight crap.

It eventually opens up, but then goes back to linear from what I can tell. I am about 35 hours in I think. I kind of list interest when I picked up Demon's Souls. That game is just too epic to play anything else.

Read his post though. It just sounds like the game annoyed him and now he doesn't play games on consoles.

So, I finally rented this game from the library, initial impressions are pretty bleak.
  • Combat is boring, you only control 1 character? You just click the auto mode button and let it do it's thing? That's not very FF-like...
  • I'm ~ 2 hours into the game and I have no clue what's going on (I just unlocked the powers). The complete lack of backstory hurts.
  • Voice acting may very well be the worst I've ever heard in a video game.
  • On top of bad voice acting, the character speech/actions are ridiculous. How many times can a character grunt/gasp in a 2 minute period?
  • Characters are a whole are ridiculous. Lightning is the only one who seems remotely interesting ATM, and her not much.
  • World map movement/camera controls are really bad, which is sad considering it's a 2D movement plane with limited area to move.
  • I now understand about people complaining about the beginning being all fighting. I thought to myself originally "isn't that what you want in a game?" but when it's all fighting with no plot to move the game along, it gets old fast.
The graphics are decent, the sound (other than voices) are alright, but I dunno how much of this I can take.

Bought it yesterday when it was on Amazon gold box for $19. Not expecting much from it, which is why I'm only willing to pay $19. The FF series as a whole still has enough stock IMO to pay $19 for a game in the main series. If it is as crappy as I fear, hopefully I can flip it on ebay for most of the money back . . .

Thanks for resurrecting this thread. It's reminded me that I might have to go back to this game. I played it for about 3-4 hours and had no clue as to what was going on. Plus the handholding last for hours!

Still it seems like it has potentiol to be a fun game. I keep hearing from people that the gameplay is actually really great once you get 10 hours into the game--but I cant keep thinking how ridiculous that seems.

Yea, its a little frustrating that so many aspects of the gameplay don't "unlock" until you're later in the game. In fact, you can't even fully develop your characters until you've beaten it! Seems weird.

Other than that, though, I really did enjoy the game.

Heh, yeah, this. I completely forgot about the game, but I'll have to pick it up again and spend some more time on it. :D

I saw it on Amazon and thought about it, but decided against it. I actually bought the game several months ago when it was $20 at Best Buy. After two weeks without opening it I thought I'd sell it, no one would buy the durn thing. I finally took it back to BB.

Combat does get more intersesting as the game progresses.

I hope so, but a guy on AVS said it took him 30 hours of gameplay for the combat to get good...I'm not going to last another 3 at this rate.

Yeah, the plot is really confusing, I'm trying to figure out what is going on. I think alot of my gripes come from the move to "futuristic" Final Fantasy. I know, I know, FF7, FF8, even a little FF10 had some futurey stuff...but this one is one gague away from Steampunk from what I've seen thus far.

And what do you mean you can't unlock all your chars until after you beat the game Deeko?

Wow I forgot about this game. I got to Gran Pulse and completely lost interest since I didn't want to grind ad nauseum. No idea when I'll get to it since I'm trying to restart another Fallout 3 game, complete my 2nd Mass Effect 2/Dragon Age run through.... and a whole lot more.

How do you guys have time to play/finish all these games? :(

1. Don't play games more than once.
2. Quit games if they aren't fun.
3. Stop buying games for 6 months or so and finish your backlog.

30 hours? i dont think it took nearly that long. its really around chapter 10-11 when the game gets interesting combat wise. Basically once you hit the big open area for the first time. After that the game does get better. i remember it taking about 8-10 hours to reach there.

And what do you mean you can't unlock all your chars until after you beat the game Deeko?

not sure if its a psoiler or not? dont think it would be. you can only go to "level 4" of the crystalrium thing pre last boss. After the last boss (ie beat the game) level becomes unlocked and takes like 1.2million xp to max out.

Got to Gran Pulse. Started going up that damn tower.

I refuse to play this game anymore. I don't think I've ever played a game as boring as this. I wanted to like it, but man there was nothing to like. Ebay time.

Crappy story, crappy writing, crappy gameplay. Characters are mostly annoying, Snow with his GOTTA SAVE EVERYONE, Vanille with the YOUR MOM JUST DIED. WHATEVER BE HAPPY *insert random squeaking noises", Story, was sort of interesting, but completely died halfway. There is no incentive to going forward.

Whose idea was it to make every single damn move completely automated. I'm not sure who first perpetuated the idea that the combat gets any better. They must be playing a completely different game than I am because it never did in all my hours of playing. It has all been the same smash X for 15 minutes while pressing L1 every once in a while to casually see my hp bar go up again.
Seriously, at what point do people say this game gets better. Cause there is NO difference from what I see, except my patience has completely disappeared.

it seems liek it but really isnt. you can kill adamantoise for like 50k each (100k witht he growth egg) so doesnt take to long at all. And if you are still playing at the end you probably are going for other things so you get xp on the way for that too.
