quote:

The report covers a series of air-combat training engagements earlier this year between Indian air force Su-30MKs and F-15Cs from Elmendorf AFB, Alaska. The U.S. F-15s were equipped with the U.S. latest long-range, high-definition radar systems.

During the air combat exercises the Su-30MKs and F-15 pilots were seeing each other at the same time with their radars, but the Indian pilots were getting off the simulated first shot with their AA-10 Alamo missiles and often winning the long-range engagements.

"Since 1992 the Pentagon has known that in a close-in dogfight the Su-27 would smear the F-15. That year Russian Sukhois came to Langley AFB and showed us their stuff. What we appear to be learning from the recent exercise with India is that Russian radar, weapons and more importantly, tactics, have all reached a level in which the F-15 is on the verge of being outclassed in the long-range engagement as well," stated Fisher.

But who knows how much longer it will be before F-22 Raptor becomes mainstream...

You're right though, with the F-22 the enemy won't even see it on their radar...

If the F-22 is ever mainstreamed. For the past few years, the F-22 program has been theatened with cutbacks and termination for the past several years. The program has been languished by cost overruns and mismanagement. Unfortunately the people at Lockheet Martin and their subcontractors can't get their act together and field this platform ASAP.

Our Planes will hit them from 200miles way..all they will see is a white stream of crystalizing exhaust before...BOOM!

However, if we run out of missless...honestly...we are fvked.

The f22 is long range too.

The F15 is from the late 60s or early 70s. We have not developed a new fighter jet since (that I know of at least). The F22 should wipe the SU30 out of the sky but I don't know if it will last 30+ years like they expected the F14/15/16.

The f-18 is newer.

hey what gives....I thought 99% of our engineers and programmers come from Indian so shouldn't our fighters be on par with theirs :D:shocked::D:shocked::D:shocked::D:shocked::D:shocked::D:shocked::D:shocked::D:shocked::D:shocked::D:shocked::D:shocked::D:shocked::D:shocked::D:shocked::D:shocked::D:shocked::D:shocked::D:shocked::D:shocked:

Damn the F-16 is sexy.

But they have been lost in combat elsewhere.

See my sig.

Chaney/Rumsfield have killed the Crusader, Commanche. The F22 is also being strongly looked at for cutbacks.

how long do fighter jets stay in service?

I mean in terms of generations like cars. Most cars have a 5-year life span before they are redesigned/upgraded.

How does it wwork for jet fighters? 15 years?

Don't forget "intelligible technical support." Not to be confused with "intelligent technical support" which we still have not mastered.

This is no big news...Canadian pilots in 20 year old CF-18's mopped the floor with F-16 and F-15 drivers in ACM a few years back.

Comparing Su-30 to F-15 is like comparing apples and oranges. F-15 was designed in late 60's to counter Soviet Mig-25. Su-30 on the other hand, was designed in late 80's (derivative of Su-27) early 90's to counter F-18 and Eurofighter.

Unfortunately they crash due to equipment failure all the time. The maintainers call them "lawn darts". One engine + the extreme instability that makes them so maneuverable = high risk proposition if anything goes wrong.

The F-15 has been technologically outclassed as an air superiority fighter for some time, though my understanding is that the avionics on the -D and -E models are still pretty highly regarded, and the F-15 pilots I know pooh-pooh the real-world benefits of the great maneuverability of the Sukhois (though I imagine they will be singing a different tune once we field our own thrust-vectoring-capable fighter, the F-22).

The thing is, we have still never lost an F-15 in combat, and it doesn't look like any of our real-world enemies can afford the Sukhois or MiGs that can foreseeably beat an Eagle.

First: I don't trust the validity of the information in that article, nor the website it is posted on.

Second: Those F-15 pilots would have been able to launch an AIM-120 active guided radar missile before the Su-30's ever got their AA-10's off.

The story is just filled with a lot of inaccurate information.
