9/28 - DOOM 3 1.1 PATCH RELEASED!

A new DOOM 3 patch, which is no longer beta and now updates the game to version 1.1, is now OUT! The change list is pretty much identical to the 1.05 beta one, but there is an extra singleplayer fix which people had been asking for: "Fixed issue when switching between flashlight and previous weapon after using the PDA". FINALLY! As before, the update resets your progress in a saved game, so you'll have to play whatever level you're on from the beginning.

9/7 - DOOM 3 BETA PATCH RELEASED!

Doom 3 beta patch is out!

id Software has decided that they want to do a beta run of the DOOM3 patch before sending it out into wide release.

GENERAL
- Updated some cvar docs

INTERFACE
- Added toggle functionality to movement commands (i.e. toggle crouch as opposed to holding the button down) - Added in_togglecrouch, in_togglerun, & in_togglezoom
- Fixed g_voteFlags so that spectator and nextmap could be individually toggled
- Made print screen bindable.
- Added mouse wheel scrolling to server list (gui list boxes).

NETWORKING/MULTIPLAYER
- Bumped damage up on rocket jumping in multiplayer
- Decreased damage from chaingun to 25 in multiplayer
- Exploding barrels to full damage to attacker in multiplayer
- Increased height for falling damage in multiplayer
- Made r_skipNewAmbient, r_skipSpecular, r_skipBump, and r_shadows cheat protected
- Made g_fov modifiable in mutiplayer from 90 to 110
- Changed server protocol version from 1.33 to 1.34
- Fixed rocket launcher dealing no splash damage to player at certain angle in Edge 2
- Added join messages when players join an MP game.
- Fixed players stuck spectating when no spectators vote is passed.

RENDERING
- r_aspectRatio now uses 0, 1, or 2 (4:3, 16:9, 16:10)
- Fixed in-game videos disappearing if you go to the menu and return

Now fix for the game forgetting what weapon you had previously equiped to the flashlight when you look at a PDA?

I thought that would be an easy fix.

Finger place and source of update

...mirrors coming soon.

Wow, I knew it would sell well, but this good!?!? 300,000 copies in the first week alone? This means its surpassed Diablo 2. Oh, and some new little tid-bits of info:

- DOOM3 demo is at least a couple of weeks away.
- DOOM3 patch is of course in the works addressing a couple of minor multiplayer bugs
- DOOM3 expansion pack in the works by a separate developer
- DOOM3 sales for the first week are possibly the highest ever for a PC game, Activision is investigating to be sure

8/1 UPDATE! - DOOM 3 TO BE SOLD AT 7PM AT EB ON MONDAY!!

Ok guys, I just got the skinny on the whole D3 situation from EB and Gamestop. I talked to the manager at the EB I shop at and it turns out that because of what BB is doing (not the illegal early sellings of the game) but the midnight release on the 3rd, they're going to have a seperate carrier move it from their distro to the branches ASAP. So, at 7PM (which is the time they negotiated with Activision and payed some $$$ for I'm sure) they will begin selling the game.

What sucks for me is that I ahve to @!%$#@$% work!! :| BUT! My fiancee (see sig) said she would go and pick it up for me.

MY FIANCEE RULES THE COSMOS!!!!

7/31 UPDATE! - DOOM3 A NOT GO IN MY AREA!!

Ok guys, here the deal. I went to my local Best Buy and it looks like they are getting the shipment and putting it onto store shelves on Tuesday. Hrmp! However, the good news is I also called EB and it looks like they're reacting to the hype (and maybe the Gamestop rumors) and are going to get it next-day shipping and try to get it on Monday! :D I was pretty excited to hear this.

Anyone else having any luck?

7/29 UPDATE! - DOOM 3 TO ARRIVE EARLY?!!

Thats the word on the streets kids. I've called Gamestop (2 closest ones to me) and they both said they plan on shipping from the warehouses on the 31st and would go on sale on the 2nd - MONDAY! I personally have made my pre-order at EB. So, my third call was to the two closest ones and they both said that they might be getting it early too. So, what're you waiting for guys, CALL AND REPORT BACK! :D

7/20 UPDATE! - SYSTEM REQUIRMENTS REVEALED AND SOME NEW CARMACK NEWS!!

John Carmack posted a new message in the Xprize.com forums , mostly answering questions about his work at Armadillo Aerospace but also mentioning this:

"Id vs Armadillo:
I am working on the rendering technology for the next game right now, so it looks like the balance will stay about the same for a while at least."

...the guy is already working on the next engine!

System requirements revealed and listed below.
- A 1.5-gigahertz Intel Pentium 4 chip or AMD Athlon 1500.
- 384 megabytes of memory.
- Two gigabytes of hard drive space.
- An nVidia GeForce 3 graphics card or better; or an ATI Technologies 8500 or better.

A few bottles of champagne later (so excuse the typos)....

First of all, thank you to everyone who sent congratulatory notes on the GOLD announcement. I speak for
everyone at id when I say I wish I could respond to everyone personally, but hopefully this general note
can convey how much we sincerely appreciate the sentiment from everyone out there waiting for the game.

A few people have reminded me of some details omitted from my initial update:

Mac and Linux: Unfortunately I don't have dates for either of these. However, Linux binaries will be
available very soon after the PC game hits store shelves. There are no plans for boxed Linux games.
More remains to be done for the OSX version of DOOM 3 and that will take some time. We won't release
the OSX version until it's just as polished as the PC version. The date for OSX DOOM 3 remains "when it's
done", but I can confirm that it's definitely coming.

Demo: our priority was finishing the game first and now we are turning our attention to the demo. I
don't have any information to share regarding any specific content, but I don't believe that we have
ever disappointed in that regard in the past. We will release the demo as soon as it's done, but this
probably won't happen until after the game has arrived on U.S. store shelves.

Last, but not least, the id Store: we will have copies of DOOM 3 available, but only after we get them.
I'm sure that some of the hardcore game retailers will get them even before we do. Check our website for
updates on this. We certainly appreciate everyone who has helped to make the id Store a huge success this
year. By the way, more DOOM 3 T-Shirts just arrived, so those popular items are back in stock and will be
available this week.

I understand that people have lots and lots of questions. We're working on pulling together some form of
an official FAQ, but even though we're done we still have several responsibilities that are urgent as the
game heads for retail. Please bear with us on this.

I know I owe you those preparation tips, but they will have to wait until tomorrow.

7/14 UPDATE! - DOOM 3 GOLD ANNOUNCEMENT

IT'S DONE!!!!!!!

Yes, this is the official word that DOOM 3 has been code released and has been approved for manufacturing!
It won't be long now until the anticipation ends and the PH34R begins ;-) We literally just hung up with
Activision and have confirmed that our latest release candidate has been mutually approved and is finally
GOLD. Thanks to everyone for their patience (yeah right! =) and for everyone at id, Activision and our
numerous partners for helping us create what I believe is absolutely the best game we have ever made.

So, the next question is release dates. Retailers in the States will be allowed to pick up games starting
at 12:01 AM on August 3rd. The official street date is actually August 5th in the U.S.A., but some of
your favorite stores will probably have it early for those of you who have to have it first. Check with
your local retailer for that information.

Internationally, the game will take a few more days to make it to the store shelves. The UK will probably get it first, on or about August 6th. Everywhere else will probably be Friday, August 13th (que Twilight Zone Theme) or close to that date, with just a few exceptions (e.g. Russia and Poland). This isn't
because we don't have love for you folks outside the U.S., but the localization and manufacturing process
takes a bit longer outside the U.S. where we will have JVC run 24/7 to get the units built. I guess the
European manufacturers prefer to give their employees nights and weekends off. Go figure!

The champagne is flowing here at id and smiles abound!

I'll update again with some DOOM 3 preparation tips (not what hardware to buy - you'll have to wait for
a programmer for that sort of thing). In the meantime, I want to see those "DOOM 3 GOLD!!!" threads set
new records for swamping message board servers, destroying productivity, and post counts ;-)

Recapping today's headlines....DOOM 3 GOLD!!!

Is that PR material from some store? Its interesting that it says the PC release will include TV spots - not too often that a PC game has TV commercials, especially a FPS.

Looking forward to its eventual release.

edit: The font used for that mock-up is extremely annoying to read.

So in the game you can look at your character's face as he gets scared and becomes helpless as to the fact that he's about to die?

I dont like the graphics, it doesn't look like anything is touching anything else, everything is freefloating in their own spaces, close to the other objects... Such as the fingers that are supposed to be holding the gun, they don't look like they're holding the gun. Not to mention the main characters looks kinda dumb...

The shading just feels wrong too, makes it look too much like "I was rendered on the computer" than a game should...

I think you're just use to playing games that hav eobjects that look like this. Seriously though, maybe you should hold of on passing judgement until the game comes out?

Not gold 7/9 but it's supposed to be out 8/3 or 8/6? Is that even reasonable?

Technically this date is not confirmed by ID. Until I hear a "Gone Gold" announcement from ID themselves, all this talk of release dates is just mental masturbation. Games have an affinity to get delayed... often.

If you follow doom 3 close enough, you'll know this is the date. Also Id announced the Doom 3 championship on July 6 which further confirms it.

The only thing they announced was that Doom3 will be played in tournaments at Quakcon. Nothing about the game's actual release.

Yes, I'm a pessimist.

8/3 seems to be the unofficial "official" release date. I've pre-ordered at EB and I've called before and they always claimed they knew the release date, but this time I beleive them. Why? Because thsi time theyve received tons of promotional material (cardboard pster boards, flyers, movies...), much like the ones pictured the the picture I posted.
