From Warp2Search:
DivX Networks have silently updated the official DivX player 2.1 yesterday as part of the current DivX 5.03 bundle packages. The new version features specific accelerated post-processing for ATI Radeon hardware!

From the readme:
* DivXPlayerATIPlugin.dll (Optionally installed when certain ATI hardware is present)

I just downloaded it, but the box that allows for fullstream support is greyed out for me. I have an 8500 flashed to a 9100 :(

i could be wrong but i'm pretty sure the actual encode has to support fullstream, so it's pretty useless.

box is greyed out on mine as well so it might have to do with only certian file types

The Fullstream option is also greyed out for me. I have the latest Cats (3.2) and DX9a installed.

Is there an option that needs checking in the ATI control panel? I can't seem to find one...

Does that mean that you need to download that .dll file in order for fullstream to be possible? Fullstream is the most overhyped feature I've ever seen in a videocard. I still haven't been able to use it, even in realplayer.

It is supposed to be installed by the application when it detects the proper hardware support. There are a couple of threads going at Rage3d, some folks have it enabled...some can't, Hellbinder claims the driver support isn't in the drivers yet. I'm using my backup PC with an AIW 7500..so I can't test it.

Fullstream support has been real suspect, but Divx implementation would make a big difference...especially with higher resolution encodings or for lower performance HTPC's. Divx and ATI haven't announced this player with official fullstream support, so perhaps Hellbinder is right. Videoshader support and DX9 are still new, so hopefully we'll be seeing more and more quickly.

I don't think that card has fullstream - only the 9500/9700+ do, and possibly the 9000 as well.

Yes, 9000, 9500, 9700, 9600?, 9800 all do. I'm pretty sure they added it to the 7500 AIW VE PCI as well!
Darn that's a nice PCI card! :D I hope the 9000 AIW is just as good and cheap!

a REAL 9100, that is... not a flashed one. There must be a small difference in the core or something on the card.... I wonder what?

No, the cores are identical. I've heard of others having the same problems as me with 9500 and 9000 cards, so I'm guessing it's a driver bug or something.

Nope, the 7500 does not support fullstream.

No... I knew the 7500 didn't but I remembered reading a recent review that said "fullstream" a couple times. It was a reviewer error - I double-checked ATI. No fullstream. ;) Oops.

They probably confused it with Video Soap, which is supported in software with the AIW VE. The technologies haven't much implementation or use yet, so they're easily confused.
so I'm guessing it's a driver bug or something.
If its even implemented in the drivers yet. Since ATI nor Divx is broadly proclaiming their new Fullstream supported player publically yet. Could be a little cart before the horse at work here.

When this was originally announced I understood it to be taking advantage of ATI hardware to increase performance (off-load more CPU to GPU) so was looking forward to trying it on an old Radeon for playing MPEG-4 movies but now it turns out just to be Fullstream which is really just for deblocking low bitrate streaming video. Boo hiss. Worse yet, DivX Player has piss-poor performance and features compared to Media Player Classic. FYI there is a direct download of the DP only that I got via warp2search comments. MPC can be had at vobsub.edensrising.com

I have a 9800 and was able to check the box.. but same goes for the AIW9700 I had in my system the other day. But I can't tell any difference with it enabled or disabled?!

Fullstream isn't supported on "old" Radeon's anyway unfortunately:(

From Catalyst Maker's (informed) Post at Rage3D:
Guys you need CATALYST 3.3 to use the advanced features in that player. You also need RADEON 9500 and higher.

DivxNetworks and us were supposed to launch this new feature at the same time but they jumped the gun a bit.
Cat 3.3 will be out by end of April.

Someone posted a link to the original press release I referred to and it seems it is not just about Fullstream but reduced CPU usage decoding as I recalled. In any case, it is correct that ye olde school Radeon's like me mum's need not apply. Even if it had only relied on the MC and iDCT and such rather than PS 2.0 it prolly still would not have worked because it is PCI and those features only work on AGP for whatever reason. Anyhoo, personally I would not use that crap player on my own system and don't see it being widely adopted but the features would be welcomed in MPC. I mean, if your PC has a 9500 or better then chances are it already sports a more than adequate CPU to do full quality software decoding anyway.

I remember that too, I'm hoping that that is still the case.

You'd think, but Divx encoding is pretty CPU dependant. I'm not real interested in making crappy video look less crappy. I was more excited about assisting higher resolution encodings myself. I've been playing around encoding HD transport streams that I've captured with Divx and WME9 and the quality can be outstanding, but 720p encodings using Divx or WME9 will make about any rig cry.

We'll see around the end of the month, but IMHO ATI's file player applet would make a nice platform for Fullstream enhanced file playback instead of several enhanced individual players.

Take that example with a grain of salt... that's ATI's standard picture and file for demonstrating its fullstream technology. To see it in MOTION rather than a single picture, click HERE and choose "VIDEO" / "FULLSTREAM" to see it actually in action.

Of course, that's not *really* in action, just a technology demo showing off how it *should* look. ;)
