As topic states.

I found this at planet half-life:

I havn't been able to 100% verify that this works, but I noticed in my console that it attempted to autosave and failed because of what I had done, and I never noticed a stutter.

Basically you just make all the autosave files read-only.. here's how:

Go to your half life 2 save folder.

Example: C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\vhold\half-life 2\hl2\SAVE

Hold down ctrl and select:
autosave.tga, autosave.sav, autosave01.tga and autosave01.sav

Right click on one of them and go to properties.

Click on 'read-only' then click OK.

Viola. Tell me if it works for you, it works for me, I think there might be a tiny bit of stutter still as it attempts to do it, but its nothing like it was.

Bump, I REALLY want to know this also. I have tried every other tweak and can't get rid of the hiccup when it autosaves. I'm not talking about when you see the "Loading" message either, it autosaves alot more than that and that's the only time I get stutters in the game. There must be a way.

I found this... I don't think it'll work but you could try:

sv_autosave 1 , "sv" Set to 1 to save game on level transition. Does not affect autosave triggers.

Nope doesn't work. Thanks for trying though. I wish we could figure this out, I only get stuttering when it autosaves, problem is that it autosaves so damn often :(

You may now add *OFFICIAL* and *CONFIRMED* to the thread title because this, does in fact, work. I am getting the failed messages in the console when its try to autosave, but the stutter has been eliminated. This has dramatically increased my enjoyment of HL2. No stuttering every 15 seconds makes it in easier to get drawn into this amazing atmosphere.
