Will not be buying this turd. PoE is where it's at -- free and not dumbed down for morons.

Didn't even realize Path of Exile had won GOTY until today when I took a look at blizzards forums after seeing this announcement.

Path of Exile wins PC Game of the Year 2013

Pathetic that with all the money behind diablo 3 it bombed like a calcified turd and a small company like GGG produces a vastly superior ARPG with a fraction of the budget. I think 90% of the diablo 3 budget probably goes to marketing rather than putting some actual quality into the game.

This xpac will win DBOTY 2014. :)

I just saw that myself after my post and came back in here to note that!!

At a glance it seems odd how Blizzard could drop a deuce as bad as D3 but don't forget they're partnered with Activision -- the worst game company in the world in terms of quality. So yeah, not all that surprising it sucked when you remember Activision only cares about profits and so they mainstreamed and consolized the F out of Diablo which is the whole fun of Diablo in the first place!!

PoE is where it's at

I have to whole-heartedly agree with this. I started PoE six months ago and put in 200+ hours. Then it came out on Steam, and I played again, and I'm almost at the 200 hour mark again.

That is what Diablo 2 was to me. The game I'd sink countless hours into, again and again (and still do).

The greatest thing about PoE is how complicated it is. You know, the things Bliz claimed made Diablo 2 a 'bad' game. Highly complicated, yet strategic build mechanics; surprise, surprise, PoE has those and it just got (and will get more) Game of the Years.

If you don't agree that PoE is the spiritual successor to Diablo 2, then you are simply a retarded tool of the system. Not only PC Game of the Year imo, but possibly PC game of the decade.

I know I am in the minority, but I always ENJOYED D3 as a game on its own. In fact I played a bit again the last few days.

There is something about it which I like, it's the fact that it's a game where I can quickly "get into" for some hours of mindless monster blasting/grinding fun.

PoE I also played for a while and I also took a look at it again the last few days but there is something about it I don't enjoy, I can't put my finger around it what exactly it is. Maybe I have burn-out with the typical RPG elements and the grind/leveling itself, I don't know. (In D3 I simply run my usual routes and hope for drops, its "mindless" but in a good, entertaining sense).
I also have the impression that MANY oversee flaws in PoE "because it's free"..that the fact "that it's free" plays a huge role in how people evaluate the game, so there's a certain bias towards the positive and blindness about what it's lacking.

Wow, what a bunch of positive people. D3 wasn't a great game, but I enjoyed it. I finished several difficulty levels with every class except demon hunter, and just restarted playing that one.

Personally, I was interested in the expansion, and am glad the op started this thread.

I also enjoyed Torchlight 2, but tbh, I thought D3 was a better game, as it should have been considering how much more it cost.

Yes, because people who like other things than you are simply "retarded tools of the system".

Curious, what does that arrogant statement say about you?

It's because you're not a cool kid, and simply a retarded tool of the system. Clearly you aren't taking notes.

The only negative thing of note for poe is the occasional ddesync / lag. Otherwise a wholly better game in every aspect

I'll get RoS. I'm not sure how much I will play considering they removed any community in the first one, and seem to be removing the economy in the expansion. It could be fun picking up items for a few weeks though.

and yeah, PoE is great! Definitely give it a try if you haven't had the time.

Yeah, this is why I won't be buying it. I am disappointed in how they are trying to "fix" the game. I feel this move will extremely fracture whatever remaining community they have.

I am not too sad though. I got like a thousand hours and close to $1000 out of Diablo 3.

As far as PoE, I think there is some huge flaws in that game as well. I enjoy playing it (and even spent money to support the developers). But, that is for another thread.

It sure does... Between the desync and the higher level map drop rate I've been very frustrated. They are darn close to creating an absolute masterpiece, but those two things hold it back for me. Still I have a Blender, A Facebreaker, a Cast on Crit Barrage Ranger, and a cyclone cast on crit witch. I'm having a blast.

With the removal of the auction house, and this new Expansion, is Diablo 3 going to be playable without an internet connection?

Highly unlikely. It was still designed around being a multiplayer game, so I doubt they are removing that.

I sure hope the loot does't end up like on console. I'd hate to find a 12,000 DPS fist weapon and then dupe it a million times. >_>

PoE isn't quite as mindless as D3, not that its an intellectual game by any means. It requires a lot of thought into buildings your character, choosing passive and active skills, etc. It has less of a 'just load up and go' feel that D3 has. It isn't everyone's cup of tea for sure, but it is a lot closer in feeling to D2 than D3 ever was, which is why some people call it a true sequel to D2.

Yeah, ignore that guy. Some people think liking something somehow makes them better than people who don't like it. We all know who the true tool is...

That is the crux of it. diablo 3 is a vapid and simple game, the combat is consistent with where an arpg should be - and is frankly the only good thing about the game, but the guts of the game as far as items, progression and building characters is barren.

It would be more palatable if they changed the name to Call of Diablo : Deckard Ops. Which would be more in tune with what the game really is; a simple console action game where you pick a quick loadout and go. A quick romp of a game you buy and throw away a few days later.

Call of Diablo : Deckard Ops.

Haha, thanks for the laughs.

Seriously was considering buying the expansion, but now I cannot even log into the damn game after the last patch due to error in downloading the EULA? WTF Blizzard.

Does the Collector's Edition come with anything special in game? Like another set of wings and such? I already have the angel wins and the zerg wings.

Can you respec yet?

You could always respec.

You get something like 40 respec points just from quests, and then another 10 or so from drops. That's half of your points.

Then, you can buy any more you need.

ordered RoS CE already!, PoE is fun but its not Diablo's story/lore. And the only thing bad about D3 was the loot, and that seems fixed.. also crusader was blast to play at blizzcon

It's cool to see Bliz release and expansion pack for D3. I fell in love with D2 after the LOD expansion so hopefully this has the same success.
